Anybody packin?

I will as soon as all the legal stuff is done. Last month I took a conceal carry class and while I'm waiting to get my permit I bought a few interesting things. ;)

For "Show and tell" or to accidently shoot yourself with. I was the OOD at MCB Quantico, VA one night. A USMC sergeant (one would think he had been properly trained in handgun safety) shot himself that night with an "unloaded" handgun. It happens! Far too often it seems.

I once had a boat in a marina. The boat in the next slip was a "harbor queen" (never left the slip) and was owned by a LAPD officer. On Saturdays he and his buddies would gather, have show and tell with their pistols (easily recognized by the size and shape of the cardboard boxes they carried aboard the boat), and watch the "Police Academy" movies. I'm serious!

I'm not sure why the average person needs to carry a concealed weapon.

Now, a couple of 22LRs, a 223, 9mm, 12 gauge, a 22 automatic pistol, and a few thousand rounds might come in handy one day.

Just sayin.

I know people up north hunt for meat to feed their families so I guess guns are good for a few people.

And not so good for other people.

Not lame at all. Are you in the Midwest? I'll be honored to take you to a range, give you basic safety instruction, an let you experience shooting a handgun an a rifle. You will find it very surprising that's it's fun and if done right quite safe.

The biggest problem with guns is we don't have enough people who understand why the second amendment is there. It's not for fun, it's not for hunting, it's there to protect an defend the first amendment. We're loosing our right to serve God in this country, look at the HSSA mandate and the Catholic Church, soon government will be jailing because they won't bow to other demands. This is where the second amendment comes into service. It happened right here on this continent, recently. Look up the cristeo war in the 1920s. Religious freedom is at stake. And that means a lot more than just going to church on Sunday

When the government is afraid of its people, that's freedom. When people fear the government, that's tyranny.

Sorry mj, maybe you should block it now.

Seriously though, I hunt and fish I've been around guns all my life and to me it's seems natural but I guess there are some people who have never own them and are maybe afraid of them. I personally exercise extreme caution with my guns and I always will.

i know they are not that welled trained in the navy. i got qualified to carry a rifle while on a ship. my qualification called for me to aim my gun into the ocean, while out to sea, and fire. if i hit the ocean, i was then qualified to carry the rifle. guess what? i made it.
now 22's and 45's were another story. i was the only one that could actually hit the mark, time and time again. several medals and even on the navy's gun team. we did lots of competitions with the local police and state boys.
but the funny thing was, while i could not shoot the rifle (well into the ocean yes), but i was allowed to carry that weapon. the 45 that i could actually use, i had to get special permission. my request had to go all the way to the c.o.
so i don't buy into the military are trained to use the weapons, should be yes, but actually are, no.

now i am all for the right to bear arms. and i would probably pack, but i do have ptsd, so i would be afraid i might end up being on the news for shooting a family member. so i choose not to have a gun. i do have tons of other things around in various places for protection (other than a gun). and i am loaded with these other items while camping also. ;)

Or the wisdom to stay away from trouble (marksmanship, hunting, and plinking are separate from carrying).

Cheers,

My girlfriend works as a dental hygienist and while she was cleaning a mans teeth one day, his concealed gun fell out onto the floor. The man said that it was OK because he had a CWP. It made my gf extremely uncomfortable.

My questions:

A) Are dentists offices really that unsafe that you someone would need to carry a gun while getting their teeth cleaned?

B) If you are going to carry a concealed weapon, shouldn't it be concealed AND secured in a way that it just doesn't show itself by accident and fall onto the floor?

C) If you have a CWP, do you normally carry a weapon just because you can? If so, do you really feel that threatened on a day-to-day basis, or are you just that cool?

Btw... I've shot a few guns, and its exhilarating. I just don't see the need to have to carry one wherever I go. Or even own one. Many of my friends already have arsenals of their own so I'll just go to their house when the zombie apocalypse is upon us.

Figure I would aim the gun the wrong way and shoot myself.

The right to carry is all I need. I don't own a gun, but I will be looking next year. Violence occurs at random. The fact is, there are people out there who want to hurt you. I've known a few people who have had break-ins occur, and one individual who owned several guns that didn't fire a round, he just barricaded himself in his bedroom and called the police. The situation was resolved without a shot fired. Had the crook entered the bedroom, the last resort would have been taken. That's what guns are - the last resort. It's just good to have that option to protect yourself.

Because we have a constitutional right to, that's why...

The number of diffused situations aren't ever reported. Maybe there's thousands, maybe there's only one.. But one is enough for me to carry on a daily basis.

I carry a Ruger LCP, the wife carries a Ruger LCR. And we'll continue to, until such time we no longer have the right. If that time comes, you'll just have to "wonder" if we are then. :D

What is a good weapon for a beginner? Is there one gun that one might recommend for self defense, or is it a personal thing?
