Tele marketer problems

Postby Woodbutcher » Tue Nov 13, 2012 1:56 pm

I have been plagued with calls from a place called "Card Services" for the last year. They offer reduction in my Credit Card rates. The calls are always automated, so no live body to talk to. Press one to speak to a representative , press 3 to be removed from our call list. I always press 3 and go back to work. Well they do not remove me. I then went to pressing one and as soon as a live body came on and asked if they could help , I would say how do I get removed from the call list. Usually I did not get to finish my statement and they would hang up on me.
They called yesterday and hung up on me. TODAY, they call again. This time when the guy comes on and asks if he can help me lower my rates, I very excitedly said, "YES". He says ,really? Yea, I say all my credit cards are maxed out. I have had to use them to ply some house payments and bills while I am out of work. I stand to lose everything soon. What can you do for me, I say? He asks, not even one card has any limit left? Nope, I am flat broke, I need help. He sounds very apologetic and wishes me well. I said thanks and he says "I will have you removed from our call list" . Why do I have to lie to these people? That is all I wanted in the first place. My guess is if you press either number they know someone is at the other end and they will badger you till you give in.

[quote="Woodbutcher"........................"I will have you removed from our call list"................[/quote]

I'm gonna try that! I no longer drop what I'm doing to answer the phone. My message says I don't answer any call the first time and to call right back and, if I'm home, I'll pick up the second call. First calls get ignored as they're usually telemarketers.

Cheers,

Gus

Don't press any buttons . The telemarketers used to ask you to press 9 . This would open an extra line that they could make long distance calls on and you would be charged . If it is a long automated call just put he phone down and let it run out . This wastes their time and if many people do this it would give the crooks less opportunity to scam others by not being able to make new calls . If you talk to a human and tell them not to call again and they do , tell them you are recording the call and the call will be traced for an upcoming harassment case . When the call is over (in Canada) press *57 to trace the call . Make sure to say yes when asked if you want the call traced and logged . The telemarketer will receive an immediate notice that the call has been traced and logged .

In general you should string the telemarketer along for as long as possible and show interest so that they will waste time on you instead of being able to rip others off with the time . Here in Canada we have a law that was set up to block unwanted telemarketers . The final law that came out was so ridiculous that it was not usable . The government exempted all of the organizations that the public wanted blocked in the first place like political , religious , survey and charity calls . The government sold out big time and then expected to be thanked for it . .... D.J.

They call me, I dial an access code to my PBX and they can't call back. I also reject all calls with no caller ID. :)

I also will simply ask for a minute and set he receiver down. It's interesting how long they will wait....

I report every single call to the federal do not call list. We have not had a credit card for 10+ years.

How can you spend money you don't have without a credit card. It's just un-American of you!

I could not report them. When you Google "Card Services" Which is all the info they gave you get more then a dozen Card Services. So there was no way to tell who was calling. I'm sure they wanted it that way.

Woodbutcher, are you receiving these calls via home or cell phone?

I looked up card services and found all this. It seems that it doesn't even do any good to file a complaint against them.

As a new insurance agent. I do call. Some would call them cold calls however here is how to stay off the list:

1. Register on the Federal Do Not Call list (https://www.donotcall.gov/). If your state has one register there as well.
2. Never under give your phone number out unless you want a call. Sign up for a insurance quote on website, then you will get a quote. Fill out a form to win a prize then you will get a call. Sign up for a mortgage quote then you will get a call. If you are lucky then you will only get a handful of calls. Some lists are sold as much as a dozen times.

There are policies in respectable firms that handle the adhere to the laws surrounding the Do Not Call list. We are business people and really don't want to get the fines. From my experience, when I call a person and they are surprised, it either they signed up for something or someone signed up using their phone number.

Now if you have done the first two things then be nice and file a complaint.

PS, More calls are answered from 3 pm to 8 pm.

Steve,

During the CICO I talked with Darrell about robocalls from Spokane, Wa "The Ships Captain". He suggested registering on FTC do not call list.
Finally I regesistered a month ago, the calls stopped just short of the month waiting time, or at least for the time being the "ship" must have lost service.

Keeping my fingers crossed registration will be successful.

Good luck,

Jean, I have gotten those same "Ship Captain" calls on my cell phone. I have heard conflicting info on whether there is a do not call list for cell phones. I was under the assumption that ATT does not share numbers. The Captain is the only call I get on my cell.

My home phones are also registered on the do not call list. I have tried reverse calling when this first started but was not able to connect. These guys just seem to get around the "Do not call" with no consequence's. My best hope is that the guy really removes me from the list because he see's no way to sell me anything.
