WOOO HOOOOOO!!

Postby jeff0520 » Sun Dec 23, 2012 1:36 pm

My lovely wife gave me my 25th wedding anniversary/Christmas present. (It's one gift for both because it cost more than our first car) It's a Ridgid R4512 Cast Iron Table Saw, and it's so freakin' awesome I get a little light headed when I am in it's presence :))
Thank you Laurie :-*

Our first car cost us $400.00, but that was back in the 80's, and it was actually a NICE car :))

I have one of those in my garage. Nice saw for the price. Just remember to use all the standard safety precautions.

First will be some boring A/C support framing, but then it's on to cabinet facings :D

Ya know, why is it men can be given a saw as a gift to work with, and we are not insulted? But buy your wife a stove as a gift and she will take you apart? :frightened:

Have a safe time playing with the new saw..... :applause:

Okay...Gotta tell you all a true story about a table saw.

A few years back, a friend of mine got a new table saw. He got it the day after he drove his wife to the airport so she could spend some time with her family on the East coast. Being unencumbered with "honey-do's" meant he could set that thing up and try it out in the garage right away! So, that's what he did that week. After work, he played, setting up the saw and cutting up all the junk wood that he could find. He had a great time, sawing with it, trying all the things he could do, while still leaving the garage door down so as not to disturb the neighbors too much. Time flew by and, suddenly, it was time to go to the airport to pick up "Wifey".

Later that evening, as he drove back down his home street with "Wifey" in the passenger seat, he saw police cars all around his house, some still with their lights on. He rolled down his window and stopped and an officer came over. He then asked what was going on and the officer said that they were investigating a possible homicide at ###. My friend said, "Why, that's my house!"

Well, it turned out that the neighbor lady had called the police, claiming that my friend had killed "Wifey" and then bought a saw and cut her body into pieces in the garage. If he hadn't had "Wifey" in the car with him, he probably would have been hauled off to jail!

...They haven't spoken to the lady next door since then.

Maybe because buying the wife a stove when she doesn't really want to cook is like buying the husband a lawnmower when he doesn't really want to mow. Some people would be happy to get a stove or lawnmower; others would rather have the top model sewing machine or table saw.

...I guess knowing what to get somebody is all in communication and listening. If we "get it wrong" once in a while, we/they usually forgive, in the spirit of Christmas.

Congrats on the saw! That's a great gift! A saw like that is the backbone of a shop. I got my table saw back in the mid 70's from a girlfriend for a Christmas present.....still got the saw, use it all the time 35 years so far....Doug

Or a garage door opener. My dad was sure mom would love being able to open the garage door without getting out of the car. Thing was, she never got out of the cer before. She just pulled up and honked the horn and my sister or I would get up and open it from inside. He still hears about the "worst Christmas gift ever" from time to time.

Just spent all day out in the shop doing the initial setup. Out of the box it was out of adjustment in just about every way it is possible to be out of adjustment. After a day of fiddling around with a dead blow hammer and a set of feeler gauges I got everything down to within .005 of true. :D
I also got the table saw hooked up to a makeshift dust collection system so I wont have heaps of sawdust building up on the floor under the saw . It was a great way to spend a rainy day.

Depends on the woman. My favorite christmas present was a kitchenaide stand mixer. I love kitchen gagets. Got a inverter for the trailer one year too. I have a friend who was very proud of her chainsaw for her dowery
