It works ok. It's not as clear as TV shows would have you believe. Computer to computer is free. There is an upgrade charge if you want to skype call to cell phones or land lines.
How well it works depends on computer and network speeds at both ends. You can video chat, text chat or do voice only calls if the person on the other end does not have a camera or you just aren't in a video chat mood.

That pretty much sums it up I'd say.....I've also used Google video chat which seems to work just as well as Skype
