Steve I feed mine Orijen if you go to their website you can read up on it I find it is the best that money can buy I have been mixing it with a bit of a bulking agent but then again I'm spending around $400.00 a month on dog food, they also have a good deal where after buying 12 bags you get the next one for free

http://orijen.ca/
A little pup like yours an $80.00 bag would last her about 3 months

The best thing about it is less goes in and less comes out

A friend of mine feeds her Boston Terrier Oriejen. It's good food. With my two galoots, feeding them would bankrupt me.

I think that the reason that it's probably not healthy to feed dogs human food is the same reason that humans shouldn't eat some human food. Too much salt, corn-syrup, flour and grease.

I've decided that dog food is an acquired taste that I've never acquired. A friend once tried jerky treats but he didn't like em and recommended against the rest of us (we were on a boat) trying the jerky treats.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

So, what is better? Raw Meaty Bones or Orijen?

So why do people get bent out of shape when I feed my dog human food?

most peeps dont realize that some human food is good for the dog. the reason i never fed any of my dogs human food, is they are not to be at my feet waiting to eat while im eating or begging however you want to put it. i have been to folks home that feed their dogs human food and i have been known to slap their snout if they are near me and my food. when it comes to food, your line of thinking if its good for me its good for them. not always true. what i hate most is people want to treat them as human, not as a dog.

When people hassle you about feeding your dog "human" food, simply ask them what dogs ate before there was dog food! Actually, dog kibble is not what nature intended dogs to eat. Come on, fellas! Dogs rarely ate things like corn meal. They ate what meat they could catch and roots that they dug up and grass, etc.

The problem with feeding human food to a dog is that some may not give their dog a balanced diet. The dog food is supposed to have everything that a dog needs in it; so, it's an easy, thought-free meal for the animal. The problem comes in that dog food often has the poorer parts of meat (by products) and other things that humans won't eat or are not considered fit for human consumption. Then, to make it tasty to dogs, some dog food companies purchase the used cooking oil and fat drippings that would usually be discarded by restaurants and add that to the dog food to make it smell good and tasty to dogs. These practices seem to make the pets more prone to disease. (Granted, a certain amount of canned dog food is sometimes eaten by humans who may be too poor to afford much else.)

My dog does not do well on dog food and I don't like it when he gets sick. I don’t like cleaning up vomit and liquid feces, either. I had a boxer that came within a hair's breath of getting cirrhosis of the liver from dog food and every dog that I have fed dog food, to as a steady diet, has ended up with cancer. Some corporations have become very greedy for money and, as a result, the quality of food, both for our pets and ourselves has suffered.

In talking to my pet's doctor, I have found that human food can actually be better for pets than dog food. You just need to be certain that you are giving them all the nourishment that they need. For that reason, many vets now hand out "recipes" for making "human" food for your pet. I also supplement my pet's diet with vitamins, just to be more certain. In addition, it is considered wise to cook raw meat before giving it to a pet because that will kill harmful organisms that might be living in the raw meat.

(As an added note, I understand that humans are the only animal that can not make vitamin C from the sun, as well as vitamin D. Our human bodies can only make vitamin D from the sun.)

I give mine both...but in order to prevent begging if I have something like a prime rib or something I ether go to a friends and cook it or I give it to the dogs the next day so they don't associate my food with theirs..my newest pup she gets something else to chew on every now and then with her training she like the taste of bad guys we have a saying at the police training academy where we go “You have the Right to Run”
But I like these ones as well
“Go Ahead Run, the dog needs some exercise”
“Burglars, breakfast of champions”
“Jaws and Paws Enforcing the Laws”

I would be inclined to maybe try mint as it would be good for their stomach and have a present smell...But to be sure I'd ask a veterinarian first/ there also might be some doggy toothpaste
or you could just stop kissing her

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I thought peep was short slang for people. What does it really mean, slow?

Re: Dog food

Postby Kody » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:33 am

In Australia, the word "Peep or Peeps" is colloquial for "People". This is what it means here. Anyway, back to the Dog Food,
I feed Kody all raw meat and bones with pureed frozen green beans and also frozen carrots. The beans are essential for good health and must have been deep frozen before using. The meat I feed Kody is ground up chicken frames as these have lots of good fat, blood and of course lots of bone. She get an ox shin bone to chew on and she loves them. There are many dangerous food out there and I am very choosy about what I feed her. The most important thing is what not to feed dogs. FYI, the most dangerous foods are, chocolate in any form, onions, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, apple skin and apple seeds, stone fruit seeds as these contain cyanide. Some dogs can't eat garlic but some can. Never feed fried bones or cooked chicken bones. Corn cobs are extremely dangerous as the dog will swallow these whole and they block the intestines leading to a horrible death. Bread can also kill your dog if it is under cooked and especially raw bread dough. Be careful of what ingredients the bread is made with. There are many things in the garden that will kill your dog very quickly, these include Snail Bait and Oleanders. Just one leaf if chewed by a bored dog will kill it fast.
To lessen and or clean up the dog's bad breath, brush the dogs teeth every two or at most three days. You must use a proper "Dog" tooth paste and a "human" large size tooth brush. Never use human tooth paste. I buy my dog tooth paste from the vet.

What a schizophrenic thread. Going back to what dogs eat, I had a dog we couldnt keep out of the raspberries. It was funny to watch him picking them carefully so he didn't thorns poking his nose. He would pull his lips way back and use only his teeth.
