Just did some math.....

I just checked out our member list....since I don't have a life on a Friday night.....we've got 1742 members as of 10/14/05 but only 875 have posted anything....that means 867 (about 50%) are either looky loos or just visiting the photos....nothing wrong with that...but for those that haven't posted anything, are you thinking about building, buying or restoring a tear? If so... get going...it's a lot of fun....join in on the party...it's a really good time....lots of different designs, methods etc....and you won't meet a better bunch of people....and the pot lucks at a gathering are great!!! .....just my opinion....Doug

I've been combing over the list of non posters... weeding out a few that are nothing more than spammers looking for a place to tie into.
I don't know if anyone notices this but about one or two new members are flushed every day before they even get settled in here. Those spammers come in spurts too. I think the most I've flushed in one day is six.
Glen Smith has been helping me keep up on this. Both of us are admins at Bear Mountain Boat's forum, so it's pretty easy to spot the spammers, especially when they join both sites on the same day at the same time...
We do try and make this place a safe place to hang out... 8)

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Doug,

A 50% posting rate speaks well for the forum. 10% is probably the norm in most other forums.

Also, think about the classes you've taken. Unless the circumstances were highly unusual, only a few students carried the bulk of the discussion. But that doesn't mean that the others weren't engaged or didn't benefit.

Ironically, one of the things that might be limiting participation is the wealth of information to be found and the fairly good search function there is to find it. Often when I have a question or comment that has arisen as I build my trailer, if I run a search before I attempt a post, I find that the question has already been asked and answered quite adequately several times over. For me to say anything more would be posting for the sake of posting, rather than moving the discussion forward.

I wasn't aware that spammers were aggressively culled, but I certainly appreciate the high levels of comraderie and low levels of "noise" to be found here. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes work.

Charlie
There are 3 ways of doing work, but you can only have 2 of them at the same time:

FAST and GOOD isn't CHEAP. CHEAP and FAST isn't GOOD. CHEAP and GOOD isn't FAST.
