Today is the last day of the Canadian penny so if you have any cash them in now as tomorow they are just copper pieces 8)

Not True! The penny will be legal tender as long as there is legal tender . They just stopped making them . Banks will issue what they have left and vendors must also accept the coins , at least for the foreseeable future . Vendors are now permitted to round up or down to the nearest nickel when giving change . ... D.J.

oh I'm not sure ...I just read a sign in the BC liquor store that they were rounding to the nearest nickle...I saw something that implied we were no longer accepting ....good to know that is incorrect...thanks for pointing it out

I'm all for the States to follow Canada's lead on this! Pennies are a pain.

I remember something about them talking about the penny smell and all the bacteria that would of been there I guess they coated them in somehow to preserve it for years to come

The thing with those pennies is they are worth more than they might think. If they are the old copper ones, they have about $.03 worth of copper in them. The new ones are mostly zinc (iI think). 60,000 = $600 x 3 (copper value)= $1200. Still pretty reasonable for flooring cost. Tile would have been about that much. A penny covered galley counter would look cool, though.

Funny you say "just a copper piece." Around these parts theft of copper pipe is a big problem as the copper is worth so much. Maybe they're worth more as "copper pieces" than they were as pennies.

That's what I was thinking cause you could just melt them down, but not sure if that would still be defacing currency or not hate to get charged cause your trying to make a buck
