Our phone is back and working

Postby Kody » Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:22 pm

Hi everybody,
After 16 long silent days our phone line has been reconnected. We once again have contact with the outside world. These have been the worst 16 days we have had since we can remember. We were not in the flood zone as we live near the coast but we are only 20 miles from the floods in Rockhampton. We suffered a huge storm that wiped out the local phone exchange (not in the flood zone either) and all we had after the second day was our mobile phone. This only works at 60% at the very best of times and so it was struggling to work at all. I guess you have all been watching the floods here in Bunderberg and all the other cities that have suffered so much. Our only problem has been the land line and our submersible pump in our bore (well). The pump died 7 days ago and we have have just enough water to bathe with and not do any washing. We were unable to provide the horse with water and she had to drink what was left in the tub but it was full of gum leaves and turned black. A friend of ours managed to truck in 1000 liters of water for us and we had the most wonderful long hot shower, soaking every square inch of our body. I can now bathe Kody as she in becoming yucky and itchy. The water pump people are bringing out a complete new pump and will be installing it within an hour.
I will take some more photos of the TD trailer and also of the water that came down here.

Kody.

Good to hear you guys are starting to recover. You sure have had some struggles lately. Maybe most of it is behind you now and things will get back to normal.

Hi Mary,
It's so good to be back on line and have the land line up and running and such a great blessing to have our bore pump renewed. Thank you so much for all your prayers, from you and everyone else who has been praying for us, they are very deeply appreciated. The flood water in Bunderberg was racing thru the city and surrounding suburbs at 45 MPH. The water ran at this speed for many days and destroyed hundreds of homes and the lives of the people who fled the rampage. A lot of homes were lifted off their foundations and were carried away to disintegrate in the torrent. Even a concrete slab for a shed was picked up and carried down the street. The problems we have had at home have been difficult for us to cope with but they are nothing compared to what so many others have suffered. Cindy and I watched the continuous news reports with broken and very tearful eyes and hearts as the lives of so many were changed instantly in the disaster. The storm that hit Bunderberg spewed out 5 tornadoes all within two miles of each other and all at the same time. Our beloved nation has suffered a terrible blow from the far north to the far south of the continent. Yet, it is in times such as this that the true nature of the comradeship of us Aussies, emerges to bind us all together as one. May God bless our great nation with mercy and grace.
:worship: :)

Joe,

Glad you made it through!

If your well isn't more that around 200' (some go to 300') You can buy and install a deep well hand pump to keep you and your animals going in times of no power.
