sitting here with my recliner turned to face the front window, next to the roaring wood stove, with JG Whittier's poem snow bound playing on the other computer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpC9YOfpVTc, every radio in the house tuned to the FM broadcaster attached to the computer so we all can listen. "snowbound" was written about a blizzard he lived through on a farm just a few miles from here in this town. 8)
can't wait to get my cross country skis into this snow (back country skis, have the same flotation as snow shoes), and maybe try out the snow shoes I bought last year and couldn't use. Finally gonna have snow the snow blower the church bought can really work with.
I'll have to post pictures, last night I drove home in the blizzard, with a boat on the roof! my boss at work gave it to me, still kind of funny to look out at the drifts around the cars and see a boat on my car.

  I have some 2 year old racing snowshoes that have only been used once.. although today isn't the day for them.. and we have new Moonlanders to use.. we will need to wait until the snowmobiles get out.. but at least we have new snow for that to happen :)

snow was so deep it drifted taller than the snow blower, I kept having to get a shovel and cut the top off the drifts, now the snow blower is down, I ran out of oil with about 4' left to go on the last path I planned on doing!

This time-lapse video does a pretty good job of showing the blizzard. I don't know if everyone can see this; but, if you are on facebook, you should be able to:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=43 ... =2&theater

Watch the bushes in the background disappear as the snow still goes higher, going almost to the bottom of the clock.

we get 4 inches of snow over here and half the country stops.

If we got 18 -24 inches like in the warning the whole conutry would stop.

The main reason we have Subaru's is that when we get snow (and we only got a couple of inches last time), it blows, and down wind of every fence post and telephone pole is a 3' snow drift. However even though we get snow it does not mean folks know how to drive in it. I usually go out and play with the first real snow and recover my slippery driving skills and while the Subaru's go very well they do not stop any better than most other cars :worship:

visit Vermont, every third car is a Subaru there, I believe they banned road salt in the whole state :frightened: and even where they plow the roads are about the worst for snow removal in New England. Last year I had to drive to Rutland, VT to work on an airplane in one of the two big snow storms we got, I found it very interesting that out of the 12 vehicles off the road, one was a motor coach stuck climbing a hill, one was a car high centered on the snow bank, the other 10 were 4wd trucks and SUVs way off the road usually impacted on a tree or rock.

Hey slow/Mike,

Why are they shearing sheep in the winter ? That just
seems counter-intuitive to a nonsheep- hearder/rancher.
I should think the sheep'd still need the wool to keep
themselves warm in the Wyoming winters. Then shear
them in the spring/summer when they'd probably like
to be cooler.

Just curious.

Cheers,

I know snow isn't for everyone, but I love it! I go cross country skiing after work so I need it locally to enjoy it. this past week I got my wife out skiing with me for the first time in 4 years. :applause: last time she didn't like it, this time she did.
and this weekend, if the weather guessers are correct I'll either be really happy :D or not... :x the predictions of inches get better the closer the storm gets.
