I flubbed up...

Postby Guest » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:57 am

Well,
It finially happened... I slammed the door on a new member, I thought was a spammer who was not.
Madjack actually got the "pleasure" of slamming the door, (It was his first "flush the toilet" mission) but I gave the order, so I must take full responsibility for this misunderstanding.
My full apology goes out to KillJoy 149.

I'm here. I just registered a different name.

Figured the forum mods felt my "standard" name was in bad taste, or had some ill-meant meaning.

It doesn't. I just know how to kill anyone's fun. Hence KillJoy. :D

Nah....not usually. Usually telling people to stop consuming stuff for an inevitable drive home, or pointing loaded firearms in a safe direction, or to not light firecrackers in their hands...you know...."fun" stuff.

Anyways......HIYA FORUM!

I have been wanting to get a TD for a short while now. I've been lurking for a short bit, and finally decided to Register, and well.....you know the rest.

I am considering buying an HF trailer. I can get one through tomorrow for $240. It's on sale for $300, and I found an online coupon for 20% off. I just don't know yet if I want a 4x8 or a 5x10. The welding is of no concern, just the price.

I can get the HF complete for the price I will pay for an axle for the home-built.

You guys have any thoughts on this?

Oh yeah....THANKS FOR THE WELCOME  (no sarcasm intended)

Slick

If you are by yourself I'd say a 4X8 is fine but to me it seems a little snug for 2, at least for more than a night or 2. My wife and I were quite comfortable in a 5 wide for a week but I don't think we would have survived in a 4 footer. It all depends on what you want and if you want to foot the extra expense for the 5 footer.

...we are in the process of building a 4x8 (on a custom frame) and will sell it so that we can go 5x10
Alotta builders use th HF trailer to build on, personally I prefer a custom built or if HF the 1800# unit but it is true that a complete custom frame (frame, axle, wheels, tires) will set you back 500 bucks or so plus fenders and lights and that is you weld it yourself so if cost is an issue HF is the way to go

I'm with you on a custom frame. The cost difference is worth the piece of mind years down stream. But then again if the tear is only wanted for a year or two, I guess the HF is good enough. For me, I plan on my teardrop being around for 10, 15, 20 years without me having to check nuts and bolts every year before using. And I like the idea of my tear sitting on extruded steel and not bent sheet metal. To me, its a lot stronger. But I could be wrong (as will probably get pointed out).

The way I look at it. If you build a cheap tear and then build another because it wasn't like you wanted. You'll end up spending more money than what you would have if you had taken your time and thought things out and built it right the first time with a little more money being spent.

Gage,

I certainly don't want to start an argument, but the 2" square tubing that most people here advocate using for frames is actually made from sheet metal. ;)
