I'm back at last

Postby Kody » Mon Mar 04, 2013 7:41 am

The last two weeks have been horrific, I have been on the bed for over a week and in hospital for a week and living on morphine. I really damaged my back having two new bashed up disks at the base of the spine. Anyway, I am home now with my two wonderful girls, Cindy and Kody. They are both thrilled to have me home again and I have missed them so much. Cindy has been an angel coming to the hospital every day to be with me. When I arrived home, Kody went ballistic and raced around the house jumping over the chairs, the sofa and me. She sat by the window every day looking up the long driveway to see if I was coming home. She now sticks to my leg like she was glued there.
I can sit upright for about 10 or 15 mins. at most but at least I am back with strict instructions to take it easy. It will still be about 4 or 6 weeks to regain my strength again and be completely free of pain, but we thank God that I am home again. I can now slowly peruse the forum.

Good to hear you are home now and slowly on the mend.
Just do what you're supposed to do and don't rush anything.
See if "Time Heals All" has any basis in fact !?! Glom onto
"teardrop time", which to me means 'take the time it takes
to do it right', as well as, 'time is variable' - you get the idea.

Welcome back. Hope you feel better soon! Love the GS dogs. I have one and a yellow lab. We got the GS (Gracie) for my wife but she bonded with me. I'm a big dog person and my wife is a cat person. The dogs know it too.

Hi everybody,
Well I can't stand it any longer. I am bored to death, I want to get back to work on our TD. I tried to do some work 2 weeks ago, I cut some 1/4" round steel bar into 4 1/2" lengths to make 22 bolts for holding the wood bearers to the frame. I cut them with the 4" angle grinder and a 4" dia. x 1mm cutting disc. I ended back in bed with more pain. Well I don't care, I have to get the work done if we are to have a TD this year. My back is sorta ok now so I will thread the studs tomorrow and cut more of them to a shorter length. Kody has been wonderful and has been so faithful watching me but her back leg is now starting to cause her lots of pain. The Crusilate Tendon in her knee is starting to become weak and it's not good. She doesn't understand why Dad can't play games with her like we used too. I have also put on about 5 pounds 'cos I haven't been able to do any exercise. It's a catch 22 trying to get well. I'm thinking this might be the last big project I will build as I find it becoming more difficult each week to do what I did before. I have so much to do and enjoy and I want to get it all done. I still have to finish off the steam loco, make some tables, finish off the floating floor and repair the boat just for starters. Where does the time go when you want it. I will post some photos of the bolts and the bearers as they are bolted on. Before I can use the bolts, I have to make a special 3/4" dia. flat bottom drill to counter-bore the bearers for the 1/4" washers. Getting old is such a pain!

Joe,

How is it going, getting on top of it ?

Something like your buggered back can turn a pleasurable job such as building a teardrop into a chore and no fun at all.

Hang in there.

Welcome back. Nothing worse than a bad back...can't do anything without moving your back...unless of course just talking, which gets pretty tiring fast. Wish you a speedy recovery.
