TearDrops and Stars or Mars

Postby alffink » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:41 pm

I all,
Somewhere on this site over this past weekend someone mentioned that "someone might be seeing stars", well I don't think they ment those in the sky but it reminded me that quite shortly there will be an interesting happening in our skies.

On the night of Saturday, October 29 Mars will be making it's closest approach to earth that it will, for the next 14 years.

I know many of ya will be out for the weekend anyway, so look around for a local astronomy club or planetarium, many all across the country will be hosting public star-parties specifically to show off Mars at it's best.

Look at the Resources/Clubs page and look up you area

I will have my tear out in the California High desert in Landers

Besides Mars there ain't much any prettier than the fall sky viewed from a dark site away from any lights. Even if you don't have astronomy as a second hobby this is something you just have to try, and October is about as good a time as I could imagine.

Tom,

Marvin has a nice scope of his own if I remember correctly

He's probably trying to get a good look at the BLUE planet

Dennis,

We have what would have been a neighbor just down the road from our clubhouse, that has a split level rance, that was built without the 18inch step running through the middle of the house.

The house that we made into our clubhouse was built in 1952 and doen't have a crack anywhere in the floor or any of the walls.

Kinda like a tornado that takes out only one side of the street I guess.

But the skies are nice and dark, no matter what the ground under us is doing.
