Has anyone ever flipped a HF axle?

Postby Roly Nelson » Tue Mar 19, 2013 1:34 am

Knowing that my new 4 ft build will be very light, I removed 2 of the spring members of my HF frame, which worked very well on my 245 lb Stacker. However, this time, in order to get it a bit closer to the ground, I have attached the axle above the single leaf-spring, not below it as suggested. This puts all of the weight of the TD on the U bolts, which I don't think will be a problem, since this one shouldn't weigh more than 400 lbs. Has anyone else used this set up with their springs and axle? I ain't a-gonna change it no-way. :-)

My first build was based on the Kuffel Creek 8' Cubby plans using a hf trailer. The plans actually called for doing that very thing....so I'm guessing that lots of folks who have built the cubby design have done it. It never gave me any issues.

Does everyone notch the spring support to make room for the axle to fit?
Has it been an 'issue'?

Thanks,
