What's Your Tipple.

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

What's Your Tipple.

I like a good red when the sun is over the yard arm. No expert or connoisseur when it comes to wines.

I joined a wine club back a bit to learn all about wines but much to my chagrin discovered I had the taste buds of a bloody peasant. The rougher the wine was the more I liked it. I cannot tell a good wine from a bad one despite spending a reasonable sum of money to learn the art. I feel the wine appreciation group I joined was glad to see the back of me.

Anyway a red for me and a bit on the rough side.

Take it easy.

I'm not much on wine. I like a cold beer or two on a hot day or a bit of "Jack" from time to time. An occasional Margarita or two.

Someone gave us a $150 bottle of wine for Christmas. I'd have been happy with a beer. Just think how much money you're saving by not needing "fine wines".

Cheers,

Gus

Gus,

I agree you cannot beat an icy cold beer on a hot day.
I started to brew my own beer back a bit, it was a damn good drop but the belt started to run out of length after a time. I had bottles of beer stowed every which way. Too much temptation and the pudding piled on as a result.
We have got some good beers in Oz, some pretty good wines too so I am told. As I say I cannot tell the difference between good and bad when it comes to wines.

Gus, Price is no indication of good. I've enjoyed a $5 bottle more than a $15 many times.

Now for TDing, my go to is something I scoffed at too until I gave it an host try...a box wine. Yes. I know, I've made fun of "bag-o-wine" for years. Joking about being found on the nicest street corners, and all the other jokes I can't think of right now. But "black box" is actually pretty good. And to make it better, the boxes are compact and easily fit in my cooler. Black box Riesling his pretty good...but perhaps a little inconsistent. That's forgivable though, after all it is a an agricultural product. There are some things you can't control sometimes.

In the mood for something a little more manly? Jonnhy Waker Black Label or Four Roses bourbon.

I grew up in the Napa valley and learned to appreciate good wine, but I lost interest in drinking after I turned 21. I do occasionally have a glass of wine (once or twice a year). Pre 21 I went to a number of parties and seeing how foolish some folks become when drunk contributed to my not being real interested in drinking. Whether I drank or smoked was questioned just days after the heart attack.

SC,

Over imbibing is not an issue with me. Hell I reckon I would spill more than I drink these days.

Did I mention that I prefer beer ;-)

I have been a home brewer for almost 30 years. I've made wine a couple of times also, but much prefer beer, for both making and drinking.

Corona. Whoever it was that figured out you could put citrus in beer should have been given the Nobel Peace Prize.

I prefer beer also. After a reckoning, that occurred with beer, me and my wife, I quit for over 20 years. As I have matured (not much, really), I have discovered I can drink for taste rather than effect. Two beers give me all the effect I need, a nice smile. Since I'm old, and pounding one after the other is no longer my style, I have decided life is too short to drink crappy beer. No Bud, Coors, PBR or anything that says, "Lite" on the label. My brew of choice is usually Guinness Black Lager or Anchor Porter. Love those dark, malty beers

I tried to get a taste for wine... just can do it. I wish I could, I really like a good beer. Sam Adams boston lager is sort of my stand by beer. I like to try local beers when I'm traveling. But beer and my digestive system don't get a long like they used to, so it would be nice to drink a non-carbonated beverage, like wine but I just can't get the taste.

Interesting fact--- Beer is best when it's fresh, wine is best after its been "aged" longer. I always prefer fresh food to old food.

My biggest regret is that I can't get VB here in the states, just Foster's :( . Australia has some excellent wines, I really liked the smaller wineries near Melbourne and the Yarra valley.

Pat,

Yeah I like VB as well.
Some top class wines come out of the South West of Western Australia also. The Margaret River area has certainly made its mark.
There was a time in Oz when you could tell what state you were in by the beer being drunk. Some back then were not so flash. You can get whatever you want pretty much anywhere now.

Hard liquor is my adult beverage of choice, preferably a nice scotch but good bourbons are perfectly acceptable and if necessary brandy, gin or vodka will fill the bill.

As an avid home brewer myself, I love a great beer! But my Moonbeam is quite an award winning wine maker as well. I can't eat steak without it!
