Hummingbird (a flying spectacle or abird w/nerveous twitch)

I want to hang some hummingbird feeders around my yard. I heard that hummingbirds eliminate mosquitoes, not to mention they are absolutely gorteous!

In that nectar will be used in the feeder, are there any residual negative impacts that are known?

Nope. To make your own nectar, use one part sugar to 4 parts water. Don't use honey or fake sugar. Heat to dissolve and store extra in the frig. No need to dye it, they don't care! Change regularly if not consumed. More often if hot. You don't want to to ferment and get the little buggers loaded!

You got to watch out for those hummingbirds....
Kat and I were camping in the tear last summer by a creek. Had a hummingbird keep coming back to investigate the red potato chip bag....

We were enjoying it, until Kat noticed that every time he left he pooped in the galley.

Got to the point that Kat was chasing "Pooper" away while she was wiping the galley down.... :x

Thanks for the feedback. There is a lot to consider (I didn't even think about poop factor.) I want to put them where they are visible, but I don't want a dung-heap right outside my window or just off my patio  . Someone told me that the nectar may attract bees; the ones that I ordered have inlets that are too deep for a bee to access. I'm guessing the best location for the feeder is in the yard away from entryway.

If it's not one thing, it's another. The last thing that I want to do is feed the ants. I think that I might have to add a disc to the hanger on the feeder. I can put some kind of ant repellant(powder, sponge with ant spray on it) on the disc to keep them from crawing down into the feeder.

Here's what I'm thinking:

There are actually ant traps you hang between your feeder and hook. Work well.

Get the flat round feeder that has a water reservoir to keep ants at bay. Dye is not necessary, but I find it useful to see the nectar level. Clear is just that, clear. Make sure you place it where you can see it the most. Otherwise, what's the point. I never had trouble with poop. At least not from hummers.
