Last weekend, I was invited to participate at the prestigious, Classic Wooden Boat and Wooden Car Show at Lake Arrowhead, in our local mountains. Wow, what a surprise. I showed up at 7 am, was directed to park at the end of the line of cars, where event attendees had to pass me by, as they made their way to the rest rooms. I talked for 10 hours, to countless, very interested "woody people", not only custom woody owners, but many of the Classic Chris Craft and Gar Wood owners, who had their prize-winning examples tied up at the docks. Many of those high-dollar beauties are hauled out every year and reconditioned, just for this show.
My teardrop looked like an outhouse next to those works of art, but every bit of mine was built by these two hands, and hundreds of folks seemed to like it. I even slept there overnight, only to start the show-and-tell all over again Sunday morning. I had a great time, and may have even gotten a few folks interested in a teardrop for themselves. As a bit of humor, (as you may know, I always love), I have a painted sign that says: "Interested teardrop enthusiasts welcome". When I flip it over, it says: "Go away, leave me alone", it always gets a laugh. Yes, teardropping is in my blood, I live it and breath it (and have another one on the drawing board, right now).
