Tax Value

Postby rebapuck » Wed Sep 04, 2013 9:00 pm

When my '66 VW camper went from over a decade at $300 evaluation to $3000 in 2006, I went down to the tax office to tell them someone put an extra zero in there. I was informed that it became a classic at 40yo.
So when the '67 VW Singlecab went from $500 evaluation to over $7000 three years ago, I was, at least, not caught off guard. But today's mail brought quite a surprise.

2009- $500
2010- $7075
2011 - $6368
2012 - $5731

Today? $22,500 How is that possible?

Is it possible to get a private appraisal validated by a notary and use that as your declared value? Because that's absolutely absurd and I'd be flipping out!! I would have been fighting it at the first huge increase!

Just because something is old, does not mean it is increasingly valuable.

Maybe talk to your insurance agent, because they write policies based on the value of the vehicle. They may have some insight.

There is a classic car appraiser in the yellow pages. I just may give them a call.

I think the appraisers for the county have been watching too much Barrett Jackson and the like. Unfortunately for me, the newly painted truck looks really good right now. I knew there was a good reason to not wash it!
