Watching the son homebrew

Postby nevadatear » Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:03 pm

Watching my son doing a grain beer homebrew. Learning way more than I need to know about the process. And for you homebrewers, it's at pale ale with Chinook hops. See, I can learn something new! Hi charlie, Roy and Mel, I know you are reading this. :)

That is an interesting setup he has there. I have never brewed from grain, only extracts. I guess I'm just too impatient. I do like a good home brew, though.

Here's a photo of my current setup, the keg on the left is the "hot liquor" (hot water) tank and corresponds to the top tank in your son's setup. A 12 VDC pump moves hot water to the picnic cooler mash tun, the middle tank in your son's setup. Then another pump moves the sweet wort (the sugar extracted from the malt) to the kettle on the right for the boil.

I enjoy seeing other people's brewing setups. LonnieMac is a homebrewer who designed and developed a very nice brewing system. He doesn't post much anymore but maybe he'll see these posts.

I figured you were a grain brewer, charlie, (i learned so much today!). Gid is too cheap to buy pumps, and he has full access to a machinist to make him gravity set ups for free, and also job corps where he works. :)
