Heads Up While on your Computers

Postby Classic Finn » Thu Nov 10, 2005 2:15 pm

Just thought to warn all of Our Tear Drop friends out there:

Today we had 3 different occasions on where someone has been sending out the W32/Netsky-P virus... But as of now it was killed by my program..3 different times. The info that I have is Infected attachment: signature.zip

so please be careful out there ....dont open anything suspicious or unknown to you..

:worship: Thank God..

So far so good...Im far away from most of you but just wanted to forward the news..

Thanks for the warning...I have a pretty heavily protected PC but vigilance and common sense go a long way...I essentially never open attachments, even if I know the sender, unless I know they are sending it...if I get one unexpectedly, I will usually email the sender for verification...got watch out for the cyber punks, script kiddies and just plain ol' crooks.......

questions for those who know more than me......

Whenever I get a note from a friend with an attachment but no signature, I always ask them to 'sign' the note so I know it was not virus generated. I've never heard of a virus generated note applying the signature.... am I correct in this line of thought???

I'm using Trend Micro anti-virus and eTrust Pest Patrol. I had CounterSpy but someone who worked on my machine removed it. I think CounterSpy is good for keylogger identification which I don't think Trend Micro looks for.

I'm concerned about keyloggers, so can anyone tell me if CounterSpy is a good choice (I'll get another version) or am I worrying needlessly....

Thank you for any input.... just trying to keep my machine up and running ..

Arnereil

Infected attachment: signature.zip I received this info from my hookup provider. They release all info to its users..as a protective warning..I also
pay an extra fee for this and filtering service plus now I have my own programs..in addition to.

I guess anything is possible - Im not an expert to say as to what is better
than the other but any form of protection is better than none..

Just today also there was a Hoax Email to verify my email service, name and adress and such.. stating they are updating services.. I took a call to the service provider and they informed me that they dont ask for this information by email....

Lets hope for the best.

Scandinavia has been stepping up the filtering protective systems and such in the past year or 2..

Im sure someone with a lot more computer knowledge can tell you
about the protective measures and what programs to use....

Arne, someone else may be able to give a more definite answer to your first question, but I think you are correct.
I use "Spybot Search and Destoy" which kills keyloggers and a whole bunch of other stuff, I also use AdAware SE, Spyware Blaster, Microsoft anti-spyware, Sygate firwall and AVG antivrus, these are all freeware and have done well for me over the last several years...I used to have Norton but they finally PO'd me to the point that I dumped 'em and went with the AVG, which updates nightly and ZoneAlarm which started causing problems so I dumped them and went with Sygate...been very happy with them...one thing for sure is to keep all protection programs updated regularly.......oh yeah I also use the Mozilla browser(full suite)

I use Panda, and it get everything... (as far as I can tell)

But it's not cheap... $79 per computer per year.

I'd like to find something a little more affordable... any suggestions? And I don't want to kill just viruses, but I also want to kill all the spyware at the same time. Tall order? Yep, but it must be do-able... Panda is doing it...

Mike...

avast is freeware and updates itself every morning when I turn on my computer. I get anywhere from 3 to 5 notices a day it has stopped a virus. At first I was concerned it was just their way of convincing me it was really doing something, until my cousin, (super tech dude) looked at the list and verified they were little virus' that many programs let through. He said the danger is they slip in undetected by most programs and then "combine" their efforts inside your computer. Sometimes it can take months for this to happen. It's like a terrorist sleeper cell bringing in materials quietly and carefully to assemble at a later date. It's free, I'm free of problems, and I'm happy.
