Got an office remodel job going. long story short, they drug their feet before letting the project out. almost 3 weeks.

We are just the carpenters, not the GC

I was told when I won the job, I had till Nov 30 to complete

Last week new tennant tells me he HAS to be moved in by Nov18. I step up the force, and think, maybe I might get him in there.

Go to Job this ayem and find the fire department just leaving  Painters over the weekend, left a pile of rags that started themselves on fire at around 3 this ayem. :x

Some of our new cabinets are toast, all the walls are smoked, the ceiling is trash

tennant asks me with a straight face if Im still going to make the friday deadline, and he was SERIOUS

I told him thats at LEAST a month set back IFFFFFF we get the okay soon to patch it up I need a drink!! :tipsy:

Have always been warned growing up in the trades this could happen, never really thought it could I guess.. can remember my DAD screaming at me about dirty stain rags lol

Don't you just love people who don't understand time? I used to work with a guy who loved to tell manglement that it took nine months to make a baby - and if you tried to speed it up to one month by using 9 women, you got 8 - err - illegitamates and it would STILL take 9 months.

By all means

I tinker with woodworking, so I have an idea how long it can take to do a quality job. I can't imagine how it must feel to see your work toasted like that. I'm also currently working as a contractor and see a lot of sloppy things on high end houses. I think that at least part of it is due to GC's/buyers pushing so hard to get things done yesterday.

Here's another one that I've heard, you don't want to spend the time to do it right the first time, but you always have plenty of time to fix it or do it again.

The department head for my degree program had this posted on his door. "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." It worked when people had to get forced into a class that required his signature.
