My mom belongs to the Pear Harbor Survivors chapter in San Diego. My dad told of him and buddies coming back from liberty and jumping into new sewer pipes to avoid the Japs straifing the ground with their guns. I'm happy he did or I would not be here. My mom was hanging her laundry and thought it was our guys practicing. We all owe a huge thank you to all of the wwll vets. :applause:  :applause:

TDN and I had the pleasure of befriending a PH survivor this past summer up in Brookings, OR
It was pretty cool, because even my kids were riveted with Elmer's detailed accounts of the attack.

I heard the other day on the History Channel that most of the Japanese film from the attack was lost on one of their aircraft carriers sunk at Midway. I'm sure those would have been interesting to see. The majority of photographs taken at Omaha beach during the invasion of France on D-Day were lost when an overly anxious technician ruined the film during processing. That's why you always see the same pictures over and over. If you have more photos please post them.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Pearl Harbor veterans. More than 2300 people died in the attack, and 1178 were injured. It is a very emotional place to visit, if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend visiting the USS Arizona Memorial.

Thanks to our service men and women, past present and future.

I don't think this is a hot political question, and I don't want it to turn out that way.

But how many of you guys think that Roosevelt knew "an" attack was coming, and let it happen to get a reluctant public into the war? I myself believe it, because the majority of people here wanted to remain "neutral," nuts as that may seem when you think about what was going on over there.

I'm just curious how widely accepted this theory is.

Ira,

there's been a lot of speculation on that subject...

There's also been a lot of speculation that the Intel community breifed Pr. Clinton on Al Queda cells inside the U.S.

Every man in that position (President) chooses what he thinks is the best course of action... only to be second guessed by everyone for the rest of eternity...

I'm busy enough choosing the right path for my own life to bother questioning others choices...

Welcome to the club.

But do you remember Sensurround (spelling?) that they had for the movie "Earthquake?" They just made the sound really bassy and rumbled the woofers so it felt like an earthquake.

There have been too many documented facts about intel being "ignored" about the pending strike on PH. General Billy Mitchell, in a hearing in the 30s, predicted the attack, how it would be achieved, and by whom, but he was laughed at. (He was also ridiculed for predicting that airplanes would fly faster than the speed of sound.) Whether or not the intel re the likilhood of an attack was deliberately ignored, or if it was just thought improbably, is still debatable. And, the same thing has happened in the past few years. And, will probably happen again.

I have no relatives that I know of who was at PH in '41, but I visited the Arizona Memorial in '79 and it is a very moving experience, surpassed only by my visit to the "Wall" in DC.
