Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Surely not..... have to ask though

Postby MickinOz » Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:25 am

So I was watching this super corny gang movie on Netflix.
"The Warriors". Made in 1979.
Gang gets caught "behind enemy lines" in New York.
Gotta fight their way back to Coney Island through miles of enemy territory.
Various rival gangs along the way trying to do 'em in.
Some awful acting, corny dialogue and incredibly bad fashion and terrible Afros everywhere.
But watchable, some good fight scenes, and the hero gets the girl at the end.
So, I'm watching the credits, and the list of the actors who played members of the various gangs starts rolling.

Which brings me to my question - before he went fire fightin' did Tony Latham really play a gang member in a B movie?

You said the hero ‘gets the girl in the end’. I want to know...

Nevermind...

I've never seen the movie in question, but I imagine it's just like Bing Crosby always gets Dorthy Lamour at the end of the road pictures...

Yes, but was one of those actors our Tony Latham or some other Tony Latham?

Hate to disappont, but "hero gets the girl" in 1979 was walking hand in hand down a Coney Island beach with a pier in the background.

Mickin's right. Kinda corny, but not bad if you're just looking for something to watch one time for entertainment value.

Oh, Warriors! Come out to play-ay!

Much of the 'racy' stuff in 79 would be PG by today's non-existent standards. Far more was left to the imagination back then.

So... our International Man of Mystery stops by to chime in but doesn't really answer the question...

He MUST be the one!

A little like Mad Max maybe, but not much.
First Mad Max was probably the best.
Proper low budget Aussie fillum.
One of my favourite lines is when Jim Goose slides the Kawasaki Z1000 cop bike into the side of the old falcon ute.
Bloke leans out the window of the coon and asks what's happening, The Goose goes "I dunno man, I just got here myself".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh2MX0EftaU

A mate of mine played one of the bikers in Mad Max 2.
I sorta didn't believe him until he sent me the photos, thought he was pulling my leg.
In that scene where they discover the fuel tanker is full of sand, he's the guy who pulls the wheelie as they leave.
Wasn't in the script and the producer wrangling the extras cut crook at him for ruining the scene, but the director liked it and left it in.

He also showed me a picture of the wrap party.
Turns out Mel Gibson had a lot of trouble changing gears in the truck and after he broke the gearbox it was all done by a bloke lying on the floor.
So at the wrap party, Colin presented Mel with a gift from the mechanics - the broken gearbox input shaft from the truck. He reckons Mel took it well.
