Craigs List -What is this?

Postby Classic Finn » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:08 pm

I noticed that there is a List that is called Craig,s List...

Does this gentleman have an attitude towards foreign buyers? Since he states that "Usually" non-local deals involving shipping, wire transfer, or cashier checks are usually fraudulent.

Thats a pretty unfair statement isnt it? Narrow minded as well..

Who is he to judge or say that all foreigners or non locals are USUALLY scammers or fraudulant?

Id say there are such Domestically as well ? In the Sellers as well..

I have spent big amounts in both Canada and the USA...for different things And I always call about or write about... the way of purchases or ways of payment accepted... Does that make me a fraudulant person?????

This kind of attitude is uncalled for as "Usually" all of us Scammers? Labeling All or Usually Foreigners as Scammers...or such (Non Locals)?

In my opinion the so called Seller can be a scammer as well local or not.
And its also been seen and experienced...

If there is a bad apple in a basket does it mean all the apples are bad.???

Probably the reason he is giving you a hard time is because Craigslist (owned by eBay) is typically for local items. Craigslist is basically an online local classified ad. People who don't want to deal with shipping, paypal, auctions, etc.

It's a drive over, pick it up and pay the seller cash type of transaction.

also ebay doesnt own craigs list they only have a 25% stake in the company craig is still the majority holder of the company

Heikki, Don't like it then don't use it. I noticed it sometime ago and decided that even if it was the only place to purchase I would wait and go elsewhere OR change my design(as some of us have done  )JMHO

Paul and others..

I dont need parts for the tear at this moment in any case and Ive searched the places that our friends in the USA use that are on this website....

Of course the customer can also choose its place of shopping...

Ebay has been used on occasion... never any problems with them...The
parts or such I mainly buy are for our 37 and 46 Chevrolet Trucks...

There are also some very good folks that have odds and ends that I buy from repeatedly... so ...I do have my own network built up even being
from overseas.. plus I have my own reps sort of speak in the States..

However this shook my cage sort of speak that labels all Non Locals as usual scammers....Its sort of tough for us to pick it up and pay.... ;)

Ok I vented
Back to Teardrop Time..... Its relaxing...

A warning is a warning is a warning, you would be amazed at the amount of scams that come in if you post something for sale on Craigslist.org. The list is customer driven, worldwide, it is customers that do most of the policeing of the ads, but not the responses. A great many people use it in the cities and rural locations to sell or buy or recyle items that they have no other source for. And yes, some people, because, they are trusting or just never heard of such scams, do fall for them, hence the warning.

I must get 3 or 4 a month from some jerk in Nigeria that says I have inheireted money, or that his relative, or client has some millons of dollars he will share with me if I would only give him my bank account info.

Then there is the couple a few miles away that fell for the " I want to buy your car, here is as Money order for $5000. more, just cash it and give to the driver that picks up your car and keep an extra $1000 for your self" . The driver shows up, takes the car and money, delivers and mails the money, then two days later the bank calls to say it was a conterfiet check, the car had been resold, and the driver had been paid with a stolen check, so all but the crook were the losers. Hence the warning.

It is not about trusting others for other countries, it is about keeping your eyes and mind open to the world about you.

i also know several people that have goten the counterfeit checks/money orders one of my friends almost went to jail because they didnt believe him that he got it online and thought he did it on purpose
but the fakes are getting so good that you almost cant tell if there real or not but without question if the person says they want to send you substantially more for something its a scam and there isnt really anything you can do about it
i actually had a friend that got caught up in some remailing scam where someone from africa was mailing stuff to his house using a stolen credit card and he was suppose to fedex it to her so tons and tons of stuff came to the house we called the police they came over and all they said is well i guess you should just send the stuff back how ever i got the privilage of meeting the CIA when they came over about the counterfit US postal money order

Just for info..

Here in Scandinavia we dont use Postal Money Orders, nor do we use the so called Cashiers Checks

If I send a Bank certified check it is sent via chase manhatten bank or other intermediary local U.S or Canadian Banks. All transactions are verified and checked by the banks before sending..but yes the counterfeit
checks can be well made... but the consequences are very harsh here
if caught for doing such...

The Nigerian scams have been met here as well..

Pay Pal is a way however not commonly used method.. And personal checking has been outdated way back in the late 70,s..

However All are not to be labeled as scams is what Im saying.. there are
very honest people too.. and these kind of things ruin it for everyone else.
Caution should be used at all times wether buying or selling...

Finn, don't take offence..Craigs list is like someone already said..it's for local people to sell to othe rlocal people..the list has many citys and a few countries, so the intent is to look in your local area..believe it or not, Savannah Georgia has it's own craigs list..i'm sure that the Savannah college of Arts and Design had something to do with it.

when I buy something or sell locally I tell the buyer or seller that I only take or give"dead presidents"for payment and I perfer 20's or smaller. I made a deal with the bank. they don't sell my "junk" and I don't cash their checks  credit card or paypal for every thing else

Freecycle

Postby Guy » Fri Mar 03, 2006 12:14 pm

Dear All,

There is also something called freecycle.org
Freecycle is people in each local area who GIVE AWAY for free items than can be recycled. Tey prefer to give them away than have a garage sale or put it on craigslist and deal with buyers. I got the popup camper that I stripped down to get a frame for free on freecycle. I also recieved numerous items that will be in my tear or used during the build.
Regards,

Guy

Guy,

I was just on your web site, and you have a good start. I liked the tear from the 40's - and the bathing suits.

I did notice you have spam comments on your site. You might want to remove them, since they have nothing to do with anything except making money for the people who put them up.

BTW, I added you to the Personal Pages of my Teardrop links page at http://teardrop.blogicalthoughts.com/td_links.html
