Wow, just makes my blood boil

I guess I'm spoiled by all the great builders on this forum, I was shocked to see this kind of construction. Absolutely no pride in their work. Worst skoolie build ever, for $75K! :x

Wow that is tough to watch, really feel for the folks who paid to have that work done. Not going to lie, I watched it primarily to see if I made any of the mistakes as a rookie builder of a CTC. Happy to say I avoided everything I saw there mostly due to the great info here on this forum.

Holy mother of incompetency!

So... it's one thing to slap your own redneck skoolie together while you're drunk as a skunk, knock off most of the signal lenses, and rattle-can the thing, then park it on your property up in the mountains to live out the rest of your hermit days. Actually paying someone for this is... beyond comprehension.

Among my non-exhaustive list of questions:
1. How did the buyers find this, uhhmmm... 'builder'?
2. Did they make the arrangements and purchase the actual bus sight unseen?
3. Why did they accept delivery?
3a. I presume that the answer to 3 might be that they foolishly prepaid, and figured they might as well get something for their money.
4. A stock tank for a bathtub...? Again, the redneck in me might plumb water heating pipe through the woodstove and rig up some compressed air for a little spa treatment but to pay actual money for this nonsense...? Wow. Just, wow...
5. I wonder what these people do for a living that they can put out $75k for a project like this and still have a fair amount of walking around money remaining.
6. Cheers for the dude in the video being willing to throw folks a bone and a warm blanket when they have been completely screwed by someone else.
7. Did the buyers discuss ANY details with the builder? Was there at least a rough sketch made on the back of a cocktail napkin?
8. Did the buyers have a contract with the builder? I presume they did not.
9. Was the price for that fancy copilot seat WITH a cushion something like $2500 and the buyers considered that a bit rich and decided to scale back a bit?
10. Air mattress? Really?

I imagine I could go on all day.

Mine is still in the design stage but I am confident virtually everyone I have interacted with on this forum would not be making those types of errors because the level of ignorance and stupidity involved in doing so is beyond belief! Installing a wood burning stove 2 inches from a wooden wall... really? What kind of ignoramus would do such a thing?
:duh:

I'm actually a little surprised the bus wasn't stolen while they drove through Albuquerque.

If they insured it, it might have made the whole thing worthwhile.

As hideous as this is, I don't think it is an appropriate budget for a custom motorcoach. I have spent a good portion of my life building stuff for other people. I would never take on a project like this with that budget. If I did, it would also leave my shop with a pile of signed disclaimers and placards at every entrance stating the "experimental" nature of this vehicle and the risks involved.

I think they have a slick salesman that's good at telling people what they want to hear and then ripping them off. I hope Lone Star Skoolies has a hard time getting more customers, their Facebook page is getting savaged and the San Antonio BBB reviews are bad as well. But talk about your worst nightmare, *every* single thing was installed so unbelievably badly. And a lot of dangerous electrical installs as well. Sad.

Well, I understand one of their fathers is the "bottled water king" who recently lost $5 billion in one day on the Chinese stock market.

Here's another video...

https://www.skoolie.net/forums/f13/another-lone-star-skoolie-psa-38649.html

Looked at the "Lonstar Skoolie" website and it looks like the guy who started the company is a 20 year old slacker (or whatever the name is for them these days). Rest of the Google hits seem to be bad reviews, comments by the Better Business Bureau, etc.

Don't know how true this is but its from the link Tom posted:

As to the $100k the one couple had, there's a back story. Husband has cancer and they were advised to reduce stress and enjoy the time they have...so they sold their California house and planned to have a custom-built RV which would work for their situation. They definitely aren't rich...nor naive...as some of the YouTube commenters have suggested. And...after getting an unusable conversion from Lone Star, they did end up buying and financing an RV. Every single one of these conversion stories carries some crushed dreams or ruined retirement plans. And some current ones, still in progress, involve veterans' support causes or public school STEM programs.

Shesh, it keeps getting worse...

Is there a link? I don’t see anything on my iPad.

They never should have taken delivery from the "builder".

Frustration and feeling cornered has led to too many wins for dirty companies, because the customer accepted the sub-par product.
