Ira Disc Tests

Postby GeorgeTelford » Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:49 am

Hi Ira

I have tried the NSTC and PAL disc's in 3 DVD Players (one which though expensive was notoriously fussy about Region codes and Disc Quality, ie it refused to play some copied discs)

All DVD Players Played both DVD's without problem. Only one thing that I did notice (and it was a faint difference) the NTSC showed up at slightly lower Quality picture on large screen TV (it was a faint difference I had to swap discs several times and still not 100% sure)

I tried it on a portable DVD player no problems (and no percievable difference)

Also on 4 computers

1 Powerbook Mac A OK
2. Old PC Pentium 2 500 Mghz (?) win 98 A OK
3. Compaq 3 Ghtz Win XP Laptop A OK
4. New emachines Win XP Desktop A OK

Either disc works OK here

Thank you, George. I REALLY appreciate the time you spent with this.

I also got a brief PM from Heikki in Finland (he'll be testing more this weekend), and he noticed the slower SPEED of the NTSC version. He could actually tell the difference in the audio.

So I think that to be 100% safe, we WILL do them in both versions. However, I'm really glad you also did those computer tests--because that eases my mind quite a bit.

One more person to hear from--Paul in Australia, who's probably at the bar this very moment.

Thanks again, man! I feel better now.

Ira, I did some checking around and was told by both Dell and Gateway that all PC DVD players will play either format. Something I didn't know.
I know its the photographer, and not the camera. I'll keep shooting with a Pentax. Just in case.

Hi Ira, received the discs yesterday 11/4. tested on two dvd players and two computers. All worked okay. No discernable difference but I'm not a purist.
Cheers
