Air conditioner through fantastic vent opening?

Postby Jdw2717 » Sat Jun 22, 2013 9:22 pm

Has anyone ever considered ducting a window air conditioning unit through the vent opening for the fantastic fan with the plastic hose?

I was wondering if you built a shroud to fit in the wedge shaped opening, could the cold air be blown in at the top and then just open a window a small amount to let the air pressure/flow out. Then you could just let the air conditioner pull in outside are to cool and send into the camper. I have seen several people post that the units will freeze up if they don’t get enough return air. Also, I have seen posts that say that the units actually make the camper too cold and that it is hard to regulate the temperature. I figured that if you just let it “vent” out and then cool outside air that it may help regulate the temperature. I may be way wrong but you never know, plus it would keep me from not being able to use the second door. Thanks for any input.

One of the problems with having an open air circuit is that while cool/cold air gets in with out a closed loop it does not do much to dehumidify. I went with a closed loop and hoses which add some heat and keep things working this is the write up viewtopic.php?f=30&t=44561
there are a number who have done variations on this with success.
