Battery charging question.

Postby RandyG » Tue Jul 09, 2013 1:29 pm

If I were to run all my 12v lights off a battery, could I still use them while hooked to 120v by charging the battery with a small charger? Will it strain the charger or hurt battery life? My other option is to hook a 3-way switch to all lights and flip between battery and converter to isolate the battery during charging. Just trying to KISS. Just to clairify, Im not trying to run 12v lights with 120v, just using the 120 to charge the battery but still use the battery to run lights.

That's how mine runs. I'm using 12 volt to drive everything. Except AC. Then a charger simply backfilling the battery.

It's nice being at a busy campground, watching a DVD (it was raining) when around me I heard groans. I knew exactly what happened. I never lost a beat :)

Hey Gerry, what type of charger are you using?

Can't remember the model number, but its a battery tender brand. They are very good , high quality. It's permemantly mounted and wired dird t to the battery. Also hard wired to my shore power.

I just plug in, and I'm charging. Running 2-4 10 watt camper bulbs, running an LCD tv and a domestic refrigerator/freezer and it still charges... I think it's 6 amp

Nice part is, even though they don't make the claim, it charges both flooded and AGM batteries. Lastly, it floats and conditions, so I keep serenity plugged in all the time.
