eBay lithium battery questions

Postby Mr. Lahey » Wed Mar 29, 2023 2:19 pm

At the point where I have to get a battery for my project.

Ive been looking at 100ah lithium eBay cheapie battery. Aprox $290.00 shipped.

Any one using eBay battery already? Any good?

Second question is charging while towing. My limited understanding is Lith battery charges very differently. So no hooking into my trucks charging system as I tow?

Appreciate any advice.

You may need a lipo capable charger between your truck's 12V line and the battery (unless the battery comes with BMS built in). Depending on the charge rate, you'll probably have to run a dedicated high amp charging wire.

You get what you pay for with lithium batteries.

You might take a look at this video:

I agree with Tony. I know the price differences are large, but properly maintained this will probably be the last battery you have to buy for your teardrop. Spread the cost over 10-15 years and it doesn’t seem as much.

Thanks all for the input.

It appears that Lithium is not the way to go for me. The chances of me owning my camper for 10-15 years are slim.
There are a host of other reasons as well. Including limited use of the camper etc.

Thanks for helping me settle the debate for my battery purchase.

When I built my 2019 teardrop, I dithered over the battery and bought a Vmax Group 24 AGM. 35 useable amps for $220. Lithium didn't pencil out.

When I dithered over a battery for my trolling motor last summer, I bought a Weize lithium for $200. 50 amps. And that's the battery I would put in my teardrop if yesterday were today. Things have changed with lithium. But I wouldn't buy a non-branded lithium battery with an unknown BMS. They aren't all the same.

$6/amp or $4?
