Finntastic Fan Question

Postby Classic Finn » Wed Sep 06, 2006 4:21 pm

Hey folks
Have some progress again... Got the Hole Cut for our nice Finntastic Fan
or was it Fantastic Fan

Got it done real nicely...with a little space for movement inside.. like a couple mm so my question is .... it has the wiring hangin out
just dangling... can someone steer me to the right direction as to where and how do I lead these wires now...

Electrical hookups have never been my bag of tea....

Is there anyone that has the same fan or possibly another ;) brand but shows as to where the wires are going?

I suppose its a matter of choice by all however I just dont have a clue..
I would like to add a good fuse box, and circuitry ...

I guess I should ask as to where would be the best place to lead these wires to.. And I reckon its about time to also decide on the lighting and all
correct? At the same time Im wondering about the safety of installing sinkable spot lights in ... My wife would like 2 of them installed ...Do they
tend to get hot on the very base ....and Im wondering because Ive got the foam inside? Or would it be better to build little frames around the light base and line it with some sort of fire proof material? Or is it too much?

Best regards

Heikki, one problem that keeps popping up for you is the way you did your roof...elegant as it might be, it put the horse in front of the cart(old American saying form the old country) and now you are having to retrofit items with the roof in place...sooooooooo, you need to drill a hole in the side framing for the fan and a series of holes in your spars, routing your wires back thru those holes into your galley cabinets(which aren't built yet) and down to whereever you are gonna put your fuse block and yes lights need to be run the same way...what kinda lining/skin are you planing to put inside for a ceiling to cover your spars??????

click here for a couple of pics...and follow the wires...

Madjack

The ribs have all been done now.. I dumped the idea of the fancy airplane
system as it was called... We just didnt like it...

so ribs have been installed in it and boy Im glad we did it the traditional way... The interior ceiling will most likely be nicely laquered Finnish Birch..
with mahogany ceiling trim...across..

here is the light the Mrs would like...2 of these on either side..12V / 10W

Finn, over here we have a 4 strand 14ga cable used for wiring trailer lights...we used this for all our 12v lighting...we split it in half so that we had a 2 pairs of 2strand wire and ran a seperate run to all 12vdc items...this wire had a white/brown/green/yellow colorcoded insulation...we split it into brown/white and green/yellow, using the white and the green for ground/commom and brown/yellow for the "hot" side.....we used a 14 ga 3strand appliance cord for all the 120VAC wiring

The fan is 12V so any stranded 2 conductor wire 14ga or larger should work. I tucked the wires under the interior garnish. If you take it off they will flop down, but with it installed, you'd never see tham.

You probably don't need to add a fuse near the fan since it is fused, but you should add a fuse closer to the battery in the fuse panel.

You can send over a box of these if you like, we seem to have a hard time locating good ones! 8) 8)

Im done drilling the holes for the electrical to run through and I was wondering yet about the fan itself.. is it ok to put a rubber gasket into the wood holes I drilled ? Is there any practical purpose for it or is it ok just to run the wires through and thats it?
