easy battrey question

Postby mcrayde » Wed Jan 31, 2007 1:01 pm

Howdy, I have a fairly straight forward question for somebody. Last summer I got myself my first Tear Drop and now I am in the process of modifying it a little. First off I want to replace the battery, the batt. that I have came with the trailer. It's a 12 volt, deep cycle, marine batt . When I go out to get a new batt. what things should I look for? Any advice/comment would be a great help.

Depending on the size (dimensions) of your battery area, go for a group 24 or group 27 marine battery. I got mine at Costco as they have better prices on them than most places. I went with group 24 as that size is the only ones that would fit in the battery brackets I have. Nice looking tear  . I like the little window in front.
Will you be going to the Spring Fling in Randal this Memorial Day weekend?

Danny, Thank you for the input. I had no idea on what to look for. I will be going to Costco soon and looking for a marine style battery. Yes I do plan on going to the Spring Fling.

You want to get the battery with the highest Amp/Hour rating depending on how much$$ you want to shell out

http://www.phrannie.org/battery.html

It might be a little reading, but about 1/2 way down they explaing the different types and A/h ratings etc..

What you want is a "deep cycle" battery, which means you can discharge it more before recharging than other batteries, but it can't take the high current demand of a "starting" battery like the one in your car.

"Marine" batteries can be starting, deep-cycle, or a compromise, but when a store carries only one kind of marine battery it is usually a compromise, and may be sold as the one choice for all "marine" and "RV" purposes. Given only "automotive" and "marine" you would want to pick marine... but really look for that "deep cycle" description.

Ken's right: you want capacity as measured by "amp-hours", not the starting-type current ratings such as "cranking amps".

Here is another URL on what to look for in a new battery.

if you want real horse power go with two 6 volt golf cart batteries, they are heavy and take up more space, but they are very tough and out last
