I used a sharp (new blade) hole saw of the size I needed and a 110 volt drill. I located a suitable place on the fiberglass side and drilled the hole.
Easy clean job.
I used a hole saw. Drill from one side until about 1/2 way through. Then drill the rest of the way from the other side. This will prevent a lot of splintering.
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.
Like Bledsoe mentioed....I used the same technique: drilling half way and then once it broke through witht the drill bit then finsihed the hole from the other side.
I did a test first on some scrap 1/2" oak I had and it worked great.

I used a spade bit with the same technique. A hole saw will give you a cleaner cut but I had no problems with the spade bit. Believe mine was 1 1/4" IIRC.

If it's not broken, you're not trying hard enough.
