Forward Lighting Question

Postby Classic Finn » Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:02 am

Has anyone had any Law Issues on forward lighting on a tear? I sure cant see any laws pertaining to these here..hmmm

I cant seem to get direct answers here in my country. :?

Or are there laws pertaining to the height of them in general?

In your opinion would they be ok in the position there or would they cause any problems? While sitting in the car I can see them in the rearview mirror and they are bright. Also they are Led. And otherwise Eu approved. With E 1 stamp on them.

Here is a pic of what they look like and where I plan on installing them.

My question is, why would you want them? What purpose do they serve?

Are they for hitching up at night? Light for your tongue box? If so, it looks like your tongue box would block alot of light? Is they are just work lights (hitch, box) what about putting them on a switch so you can drive with them off. If you need them by law then mount them low so they don't shine into your TV.

Here is the reason it came to my attention in the very beginning. On all utility trailers here it is required.. now I just cant seem to find an answer to a registered miniature caravan under 750 Kilo.

Here is a photo..

The registry and inspection office dont know the reply after seeing our tear once again  :?

I just lov teasing and hassling them (the officials) since they are once again awed by our tear showing up.. :R

First off: I haven't told you before but that is one beautiful teardrop!
 :applause:

Second:  If you think the police know, why not ask them instead of waiting until you get a ticket?

Hi there Sharon.. Thank You.

Here in Finland its like so that one policeman will say one thing and later comes another that says somthing different...  And in reality none of them know..
Its a long story but our tear is the 1st American Style Tear in all of the country so far. Yes for motorcycles there,s a few around but they cant be towed with an automobile and the strict laws dont affect them.

Ive been harrassing the Officials here with our tear about the registering and Eu Laws and our own national laws for a long time. Some Laws Ive won but a few Ive lost. All because the Officials dont know about teardrops and they about run away when I arrive with or without our tear.

So we never know what to expect with this teardrop laws here. :?

I don't know how many of our UK laws are from EU directives.

I've put front markers on our teardrop, but I think maybe I could have used reflectors instead.

This site may be of some use;

I'm loving your trailer fella

Cheers Dave.

All this time I thought you lived in Finland....now I find out you actually live in PA!! 8) 8)

That's exactly what you get from the State Police here pertaining to trailer laws!! (and a lot of other things too)

With that being said... I would mount them low and inset toward the center enough that they will not be seen by you through your side mirrors. I have driven some trucks that have a yellow marker light low and facing forward. I have actualy unpluged the lights so I could see out my mirrors. A forward facing light will blind you from seeing behind you in your mirrors.

Heikki,

I'm with Gerdo,

Looks like a good idea, and will make your trailer even more visible to oncoming traffic.
But, they will quickly become an irritant if visible from the drivers seat.

No idea of the legality, but it would be easy enough to wire them into your lighting and install a switch for each of the two lamps so that if a policeman says no, you can just shut them off, and allow them to serve as a reflector of sorts.
Once at the campground, you could switch them back on and use the light for setting up.

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...
