Where should the hot, (black) wire from shore power be connecter to in the converter?

Mine has enought room for three breakers, I am using, (1) 30 amp and (2) 15 amp.

The way it looks it should be hooked to the attachment point (screw) on the 30 amp breaker which will in turn will power the star bar, as labeled in there manual, and the other breakers. Should there be a attachment point/lug at the star bar? If so mine dosen't have one.

If I connect the shore power to the breaker, and there is a branch circuit they call for connecting to the breaker also, that branch circuit will always be live even with the breaker in the off position, (they are both connected to the screw on the breaker). Seams unsafe.

Thanks

Instructions are clear as mud, eh?! There are lots of nice diagrams people have created here for wiring their wfco's.

Here's how I wired mine (8735)

Black from shore power to screw on 30A breaker. This supplies power to the stab bar. Nothing else is hooked to the 30A breaker.

My (3) other 20A AC breakers are wired to their specific circuits and of course plug into the stab bar.

On one of those 20A breakers I connected the black wire from the converter (which supplies power to the converter, BTW) as well as the wire going to its circuit. When that breaker is OFF, the DC converter will be OFF. I cut off the pigtail wire.

Easy peasy!

Well this is a "duh" moment

Got it. Now it makes sense

I was thinking I needed to connect the tail (supplied wire) to the main breaker also.

Thanks for the reply

Dan

Sounds good to me. I have a smaller version, the 8725, but guess the idea is the same. I have been very happy with my WFCO converter. It does the job charging the trailer battery if there is A/C hookup, three stage voltage, so it is also good for battery maintenance.

Thanks for asking the question. I will probably be to that point of my build in a couple of months. I have a WFCO and couldn't make sense of the directions. Steve - Sontetpro - has some good diagrams on this site.

I know, I don't know how many searches i did to figure out what to do with that stupid pigtail wire, and finally found where someone cut there's off. I suppose its purpose is to add one "extra" circuit...whatever.

Glad I could help! :D

I called tech support at WFCO when installing my converter and they tried to be as helpful as they could. The instruction manual was a little hard to follow, as though someone was working with a second language. On the DC side there were three positive wires on my model for three DC circuits and a fourth positive wire for charging the trailer battery. Just one heavy negative wire. The AC hookup seemed straight forward.

When the battery is connected to the converter it will feed power through to the three trailer DC circuits if there is no campground power. My WFCO is the 8725. Later models may have more circuits but I imagine the idea is the same.
