Tailgate LED Third Brake Light

Postby bdosborn » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:19 pm

I added a third brake light to the Boxcar. Its an LED tailgate light I got from eBay for $41 delivered. It was really easy to install, just stick it on with 3M VHB tape.I had wired both sides of the frame for stop, turn, park and reverse in anticipation of a third brake light. Terminal strips made it really easy.

They come in 60" and 48" widths, this is the 60".

I just wrapped the wires down underneath the frame.

The light also has a white backup LEDs. I added LED reverse lights a little while ago and they aren't very bright. The tailgate light isn't real bright either but every little bit helps. I tried to backup at night without any lights once and it was *really* tough, hopefully the lights will help.

Here's a video of the lights in action:

Loved the dancing light show! They look bright enough to me! I doubt you'll ever have to worry about getting rear-ended. People will notice you ahead of them if for no other reason than that your tail lights are so different from the norm! Good job!

That is very cool Bruce 8)

I haven't had mine out yet, but I've been thinking that I should add a third brake light cuz my lights are so low.....but I didn't think ahead like you did with the terminal strips

Anyway, I really like your setup :applause:

Thanks guys! This is one of the last trailer chores I have left to do this winter. I still need to repack the bearings but then I'm ready for the camping year...
