Chris,

From several postings by "Arne" on the board, I am using one of those Group U1 scooter batteries. They are around 25 pounds and quite small.

I have used one for years. I also use it to power my electric golf bag carrier. Sometimes they are called wheelchair batteries. It is about 7 3/4" long, 5 1/2" wide and 6 1/2" tall. It is a gel type deep cycle battery.

Thanks guys!

I never even thought of that. Becky has a Rascal that we use at car shows and I knew it was a 24v system. What I forgot was that the battery's were 12v!

I even have a pair of old ones. I can mock up the battery tray this weekend!!!

Some of the new marine stuff has very small batteries. There is a light weight trolling motor that has a 15 pound battery for it.. 8) Will do a trolling motor at full speed for 2 hours so should do lights for a while.

Alarm systems use a battery about half the physical size of the scooter batteries, they are 4 Amp hours.
I have one I use to power my amplified antenna for the camper.

If you are really serious about small and light, use Li-ion or Li-poly. A 30Ah pack runs about $500, and you will need a special charger. Your next best chemistry is Ni-MH. These too are very expensive, require a special charger, and don't last as long as Li-po.

Most of us who are weight conscious are content with 35Ah SLA batteries in the 25 pound range. Use LED lighting, forget running a micro or AC, run your fan as little as possible and it can last a week or more between charges.
In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.

:?  Oh my. I didn't look at that!

You can also run two 6 volt batteries in series and get 12 volt. Less weight and way less cost!
