Battery venting

Personally I would love to put the battery on the outside of the trailer.
But this trailer has a horizontal LP tank and there's no room for the tank and the battery on the tongue.
I did think of mounting the battery under the trailer but that doesn't leave a lot of ground Clarence.
So In the trailer it go's.

Also, operation above 80F shortens battery life so keeping them out of the sun helps too.

Awww man…how’d I get in the middle of this? :cry:

Dog says the temperature/pressure curve of propane at zero degrees is worse than the battery performance, but we NEVER put the propane inside to keep IT warm. That seems backwards, because the hydrogen is a LOT more flammable than the propane, and we know for SURE that the hydrogen is going to vent.

I read on a page discussing storage batteries for a PV setup, they ran a 1.5'' copper tube in to the top of the enclosure, and put a 3/4'' tube inside the 1.5'' tube and ran it to the bottom of the enclosure so it would draw fresh air in the smaller tube as gas vented out the top tube.

A quick thought on NHRA accepted boxes. As I recall drag cars don't have alternators. The battery powers things like the electric fan and in some cases electric water pump (other cases engine water jackets ar solid filled) and ignition computer while the car goes 1/4 mile down the track.

Not true for all classes. I wired a door slammer drag car in March and we replaced the 30-amp alternator with a 120amp alternator. The 30 amp alternator was incapable of maintaining the demands of the car.

Most automotive ignition systems (including aftermarket performance ignitions) are designed for optimal performance at 13.8V. Anyone running with out an alternator is only kidding themselves. The car I wired picked up 1.5 tenths with a properly sized alternator.
