3-way light switch

Postby 2ndmile » Wed May 18, 2011 2:06 pm

I have searched but could not find anything. Is it possible to wire a 3 way DC switch or is there such a thing. I would like to have one light that can be activated by a switch from either door.

Not needed it's just like the dome light in your car. Simply run 2 hot wires one from each switch and ground the light in one spot It will work swell!

Are there any adverse effects if both switches are "on"?

You would have to turn both switches off to turn the light off.

Correct wiring shown here.

Yeah, the the thread Zip mentioned helped me quite a bit. Pay attention to the quote above in that thread and you'll have the ability to "lock-out" one switch from another.

Get a light with a switch located ON the light. The switch can be reached from either door of a tear. It will take less wiring, less switches, and less complication.

Bottom line is 3 way DC switch/lamp circuit wires exactly same way as 120V AC 3 way switch wires...
