Generator question, and an A/C question as well

I have ordered a cargo trailer for conversion, as posted on the cargo trailer forum.

I am wanting a small generator to run a small air conditioner unit when shore power is not available.

I have been looking at these online and wondered if anyone here has used this unit, and do you sparky experts think it would be ok to run a 5000 BTU ac unit?

I'm thinking it will be ok, and if not, I can just take it back for another or refund.

I don't think the generator you posted is big enough. The startup amps of the compressors on A/C's can be double or more the normal amps. I have a Champion 2000 Inverter/Generator that will do my 7000 btu portable A/C. But she does consider choking when the compressor kicks in. I'd get at least 2000 and even more if you can afford it and the extra weight.

The Frigidaire unit is the guts of our "portable" unit but we have a Kiopor 2300W industrial generator that will run 8+ hours on its gas. One alternative is a hard start capacitor http://www.modmyrv.com/2009/05/27/rv-ai ... -capacitor
