Need help with my electrical diagram PLEASE!

Postby perkgana » Sat Mar 10, 2012 1:04 am

Hi everyone,

Im new to this forum and to tear drops. I started my build a couple of weeks ago and its time to start figuring out the electrical diagram.

This is what Im thinking... the idea is to charge the battery while plug to shore power and run the 110v throught shore and 12v throught the battery. The battery tender can be plug constantly and the battery can be used while charging too.
When no shore power I'll turn on the inverter and use it to run the 110v outlets...

My question is do I need diodes somewhere? if so what and where would you recommend? Im thinking I need one to stop the 110v out of the inverter to go back into the CB and charger and all that.

PLEASE HELP!

Yes... The output of inverter needs to be isolated from "shore " power.... You need some sort if "cut over switch" so the 120 volt AC circuits can only be powered by ONE source, not both.... Its an "or' situation, shore power "OR" inverter power... Switch needs to be where line from inverter intersects with output of circuit breaker.... How Battery Tender gets its power (per your diagram) is ok, because without shore power its effective off, and since its ahead of inverter output (in circuit) when using transfer switch, it is effectively isolated

You may want a power switch on input to inverter. but it may not be necessary because with "no load" on inverter (TD on shore power) the power draw on DC system will probably be minimal and whatever "consumption" will be made up by the continuous charging of battery...

Other than that the basics looks workable...

On the other hand....

I have this system but always run my 110v off the battery. Of course my inverter only charges my laptop and phone and small things like that. No coffee pots or toasters.

When i want to use the Air conditioner I use an extension cord and plug directly into the box next to the trailer.

So, I have both 12 Volts and 110 volts but don't have a disconnect. For the plugs inside the trailer the house type wall plugs are all off the inverter. As long as I have juice in the battery or the charger is plugged in it all works.
Conform and be dull.

I vote for Dale's solution. Why put your battery and inverter though the "wear and tear" and limit your options by having all a/c powered by the inverter.

Cheers,

Gus
