Solar panel recommendation

Looks like I should read this first:

Hi there,
I'm new here and I'm just starting to look into getting a solar panel for our TD. I was recommended a 40W panel, but I'm not really sure what to base the decision on. Our trailer is parked in the sun when we are not using it but nowhere near a 110V socket. So I figured a solar panel would make sense.

We don't have many elctrical appliances, a few LED lights and a car stereo. i also charge my laptop off a 110V converter. Thanks for help in making the right choice.

Counting up you average usage will go a long way to helping you choose the right size solar panel for your tear. I run led lights, computer fans for ventilation and either a flat screen tv or radio and my 80 watt is more than enough. I don't try to run energy hogs (ac, coffee pots, electric cooking equipment, etc).

Add up your usage and go from there. If you only camp for one night then yeah just letting the tow vehicle charge your battery while on the road is probably all you need.. If you camp for multiple days at a time then a panel can work very well. My cargo camper is also parked in the sun when not in use and my panels keep my batteries charged up and ready to go with out having to keep it plugged in.. I also leave my vent fans on during storage. They have a thermostat so they don't run 24/7. But with the panels it doesn't cost me any power to leave them on.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you are not using the TD then the only reason for having a solar panel would be to re-charge the battery for the next use and/or keep the battery from self discharging. Is that what you have in mind?

Get this panel if you only run LED lights and charge your phone.
45 watt panel

Get this panel if you watch DVDs on a laptop, charge your phone and run a bunch of LED lights.
85 watt panel

Use this controller for either panel.
