Battery Separator - Sure Power 1314

Sorry about the bad luck with the new battery separator.

Incidentally, I've been using the aforementioned "ford starter solenoid" to power the fog-lights on my truck. Use them all the time. Six years so far, and haven't had any problems even though its not continuously rated.

Here's a very late follow up I posted to another thread. I thought I should close the loop here:

It took 6 weeks, 26 emails (I'm not kidding, I saved all the emails) and 4 phone calls to get them to send it back. They lost it for awhile, then it sat on somebodies desk for awhile, then they forgot to ship it. They said they tested it and it was fine. I don't think I ever would have gotten it back if I hadn't kept nagging them for it.



I reinstalled it it and it promptly closed in at 12.7 V.



I replaced it with a Yandina and have lived happily ever after. The Yandina only uses 150MA when closed so I like it better, overlooking the fact that it works like it should in the first place.

I have a $75 Surepower 1314 POS in the garage that anyone can have if they want it. Surepower is on my never-getting-another-cent-from-me list.

I spoke to Sure Power today and discussed the Sure Power 1314 and learned some interesting facts.

The separator needs to be mounted in a convenient location "near" the main battery. Apparently it voids the warranty to locate the separator in a trailer as that's not "near". I asked him what "near" meant and he said that meant under the hood of the tow vehicle. So why don't they say that in the installation manual? He went on to explain that most of their products are installed by "truckers and mechanics" so apparently they know what "near" is. Anyways, this product is NOT designed to be installed remotely in a Teardrop or Travel Trailer. Despite that fact that its states in their sales brochure that its "universally suited for mounting in tow vehicle or towable".

He also stated that oscillations from flashers such as can be found on tow trucks are a problem, hinting that perhaps there was something in my truck electrical system damaged the unit. No mention of that issue in the sales info or the installation guide.

In short, it’s appears to be a delicate device that's quite sensitive to voltage variations.

I got a return goods authorization and mailed it back but I'm not holding my breath. ..

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience with the Sure Power Battery Separator.
I learned about Sure Power Battery Separators from "Sportsmobile". They, in the past, installed them in all of their conversions.
I installed them in my three van conversions, that I converted in the last decade.
I used the Model 1315, not the 1314.
In the last conversion I mounted the Seperator in the back near the Converter. In the other two conversions, I mounted the separator under the hood. I had no problems with the Sure Power Battery Separators. I do not know "Sportsmobile's" history with using Sure Power Battery Separators

There are a lot of people that are happy with their Sure Power, I think I just happened to get a bad one. To be fair, I don't think Sure Power gets a lot of them back because they didn't seem to know what to do with mine.

I got the 100. BTW, the Yandina website has a ton of information on how to install the Yandina. I can't find the Sure Power website anymore, I think they were bought out by Cooper.
