small battery

Postby del » Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:26 pm

Hi all

Would like to put a small battery in the jelly belly. I know the deep cycle is what I want, but I plan on a light in the galley, and one (maybe two) in the cabin. Is there a deep cycle battery the size of a lawn mower, or should I just run a lawn mower battery? Will leave the space so the next guy can put in a standard battery, but for my use I simply do not need it.

del

p.s. will run a 110 volt system, that may be used during the build, and by the next person who owns this trailer (after I die).

Del
For limited lighting, I have used batteries like these ;

E-bay battery

They are a rechargrable battery, small inexpensive but they don't last very long. 2-3 hours a charge. They are "throw aways" in that you will probably only get 1 to 1 1/2 years use out of them, Not the greatest....But for just lighting...there fine.

Another option is a replacement battery for a computer UPS. You can get 18 amp/hr for about $32. Or more juice for more money. They are pretty small. Here's a for instance:

Optima sells a 45-50AH battery that is 9x9x5...about half the size of a standard battery...they work great...the drawback is that they cost about 140 bucks on your doorstep....

Just buy a car "Jump Pack". http://www.partsamerica.com/productdeta ... yCode=3013 It will give you a battery and a charger. Either leave it in the case or open it and junk what you don't need.

If you happen upon an old electric scooter, they have two 12 volt batteries in them. Also model airplanes are started with a rechargeable 12 volt sealed battery. A couple ideas for your search.

I have used a Sears DieHard wheelchair battery for years. It is the size of a lawnmower battery but is deep cycle. It says AMG wheelchair on the case and is model # 27141.

Hi all.

All sound like good ideas, I do have some time to decide. Figured I should ask early, rather than just before I head out the door to buy it.

Thank you for your input, it is appreciated.
