WFCO power converter help

Postby Woodbutcher » Tue Oct 09, 2007 11:35 am

I am just starting to finish connecting all my AC/DC wiring to my 25Amp WFCO power converter. I see in the directions that it is not recommended to be in the same compartment as the battery. Well thats a problem now. I designed the galley to put all the electrical in one place. There is no other good place to put it. How critical is this? I plan on using an Optima Yellow top as the battery. Here is a picture of my galley. All the electrical was to go into the lower left side.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mine sits in the same compartment with two 100ah AGM's I think the yellow top is a AGM also. AGM is a recombiner battery and does not vent unless you overchrge it. That won't happen with a 3 stage charger like the WFCO. Been like that for a year and 1/2. I haven't had any problems.

It's just a liability thing ! As I understand the yellow top's do not off gas like a normal lead acid battery and I personally would not have a concern with it. If you would feel better place the battery in a marine style battery case.

Thanks guys. That makes me feel better. Don't want any problems at this point. It seemed like most people had everything close together as well. Does this mean I will not have to put an air vent into the battery compartment area? I don't want to put another hole in the TT side if I don't need it. Now if I can figure out the rest of the wiring I will be happy. Expect more questions!

WB Steve...you have to VERY seriously abuse an Optima to get it to outgass...it is designed for the hydrogen to recombine with the electrolyte...you shouldn't have any problems with them in the same box...they do make a sealed and vented battery box if you are overly concerned........
