Exterior Light Ideas (Above Doors) Porch Light?

Postby Classic Finn » Sat Mar 15, 2008 6:26 pm

Im looking for lights to install near or above the doors on our tear and I was wondering if there are surface mounted ones available. Preferably with a downward beam.

Also What kind of lighting have you folks used for this?

Heikki, Ive use these before but had to paint them black. Image
They retail locally for $9.99 each. I bought 3 black ones this morning and he still has 71 available. They work perfect for a porch light & you'll have a hard time beating his price. Danny

Porch Lights for $4.79 each

I've used that too, on the Lil Diner. Also had to paint it black.

Although for some reason I like this one better...

Finn...whatever you get, be sure to move the lights around and see how things look before you mount them. From the get..I figured to put the lights above the door...but they (IMHO) just looked better moved fore or aft!!!

IMNSHNO... The best place for a light for getting into the tear after dark is underneath the trailer right below the door to illuminate the ground. :lightbulb:

I am using 12vdc LED lights which I purchased in Poland. The European market for low voltage lightins is much better than it is in the states.

The lights were originally designed for use as stairway step lights. The fixture is about 50mm diameter with a rectangle lens to difuse the light from the led.

I purchased the lights at Castorama and Leroy Merlin. Being across the pond you should have access to them.

I am out of town right now but when I get back home, I will mail you the information if you wish.

Hmm who and where was it on the forum that had some stainless lights that were round and were mounted on the outside with a rounded shade on them?

Shucks if I can remember them at all.. were they Marine lights?

Non of the above are available here that you mention..

I have the same lights as Danny. They come in white or black. They also come with or without an external switch. I used the kind without the switch, and switched in from inside the door.
I'm pretty sure they're made by Bargman.

I really like those.. I was looking at my Hella Marine book here and just maybe found some nice ones.. but sadly enough they have to be sunken into the wall, Im sort of scared to do that.

Sure wish them lights such as Danny and Mike used were available here but no such luck..

Thanks

I,ll keep looking ... :)

Heikki, the DelCity part #73462 GM truck License/Utility light cost $2.37 each. They look kind of like a chrome eye ball. The catalog doesn't give their size.

They also have an LED light, part #7865, a rectangular LED License Plate Lamp that cost $5.79 each, that could be a nice door light. They're 2.56" wide, 1.19" high and .94" deep.

I requested a catalog from DelCity. It arrived quickly. It's a quality catalog with good product descriptions and full color photos. When it arrived there was an enclosed note offering free shipping for orders made within a short time. When you enter part numbers in the Product Search box on their web site it displays, or shows a link to, a web page showing information about the product and it's price.

Their #7865 LED light will probably be the one I use below the side doors for a night light. :)

why not use a number plate light, come in black and chrome and are 12v. Cheap. All you have to do is bodge a switch in.

Hi Steve

Those are the ones Ive been thinking of, meaning the round ones.
I think they would look good with the shape of our tear..Cant remember who on the forum here has them installed as well below the doors. ;)
