Experience with Schumacher Speed Chargers???

Postby cracker39 » Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:21 pm

My battery charger gave up so I went to WM. They had different chargers than when I last looked at them last year. I bought a Schumacher Speed Charge 12/8/2, which is multi-stage charger. I used it and it seems to work well. Has anyone else used this charger?

I looked at the 6/4/2, but the 12/8/2 model has a digital readout for the battery voltage or percent of charge and faster charge times, so I chose that one. The odd thing is that my WM price was $44.94 and the price at online stores is about $80 to $90 for the identical charger. I wonder if WM made a mistake. But, then, WM had the 6/4/2 for under $29 and the Amazon price for the same charger is $56.72. Go Figure...

I have the same charger, I bought on Ebay for I think $25, it works great so far, I have used it about 10 times for different batteries.
The digital meter is pretty accurate, I checked it against my multi meter. A.H

Thanks. I also checked it against my multi-meter and got the same readings. I've used it on my two boat batteries twice to be sure they were charged. They still drop about a half volt (from 13.3 down to 12.6) a couple of hours after charging. I used the boat a couple of times and the starter battery is still doing the job and the trolling motor battery seems to be holding up as well. Later or in the morning, I'll recheck the voltage levels and recharge if needed. Then, I'll keep a float charger on them when not in use.
