Layout for Electrical in tongue box

This is a mockup of what I am doing for my electrial in a tongue box. I labled most of the photos, but forgot that there will be a vent behind the battery to the outside (probably a 2" or 3" round vent from HD or Lowes). There will also be a GFIC outlet in there for the charger. I plan on hardwiring the charger to the battery terminals and only using it overnight (when we are sleeping) to keep the battery charged up. I really don't think that the charger is necessary for the type of battery I am using, but it will be nice to have it for insurance.

I read somewhere that you can hook up a remote vent to Optima batteries. Have you been able to do so? I'd rather just run a vent for the battery instead of venting the whole compartment.

I'm using an automotive master cutoff switch for my battery disconnect:



That way I can stick the handle through the side of the box where it will be accessible without opening the box.

What did you have to pay for that switch and where did you get it? The blade (ala Frankenstien) style that I am using is for electric fencing and only cost me about $7.00. The brass ones that the automotive places sell is about $23.00.

All this talk about venting the battery fumes, got me thinking, I have a couple fan from an old computer that may work out just great now I have to find them and see what type of voltage they need. Has anyone tried this type of cooling fan?

I got it at JC Whitney and that's what I paid for it.

There is no need to vent the optima battery. It won't gass off unless you severely overcharge it. If you do cause it to gass off, you will have probably damaged it. Be very careful in your selection of chargers, you don't want to charge it more then necessary.
