WFCO 8945?

Postby hunter535 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:30 pm

:)
Hello all.
I am at the point where I am trying to figure out what make/model converter to purchase for the cargo trailer (7 x 14 v-nose) that I am planning on converting. I am leaning towards the WFCO 8945. It appears to have all the bells and whistles I am looking for - 45 amp, 3 stage charger, 5 ac /11 dc branches, compact, looks good and priced for $165.00 at Best Converter.

Some of the info I have read gives WFCO a good rating. Does this also carry over to this model?

Does anybody have any negative reviews on this model/make?

Any suggestions on another make converter that might be a better unit/deal?

I have used the WFCO 8725 with good results. Sorry I have no info on the 8945. Could you create an album and post a photo of the trailer? I would be interested in seeing that. My album has a pic or two of the 8725. Two A/C circuits and three D/C plus a separate battery charge circuit. One convenient feature is that when there is no A/C hookup battery power feeds through to the three D/C circuits for the trailer. No switching needed. I imagine the 8945 would be set up in a similar way but with more circuits/amps.

Bill

PS If you do not already have a program to adjust photo size for the forum, there is a free download from Google called Picasa3 that works fine.

Thanks for the reply wlopper89.

As soon as I get the trailer I will post some pics. I am expecting the trailer to be here within a week or so from today.

Yes, the WFCO 8945 has 5 AC branches and 11 DC branches with a 3 stage charging capability. It appears to be identical to the 8725 except with more branches. I am not sure how many branches I will need but I figured that it is better to go bigger for now than to have to buy a bigger unit latter.

Also, thanks for the info on the photos. I have been trying to find out how to resize my photo to post but have not had any luck in my kodak program.

Hunter:

When I called to order my WFCO 8735, Randy answered the phone (Ask Randy Ph#888-828-1893). He thought I was building a bigger trailer than I am; so, he suggested that I purchase a Progressive Dynamic. After I explained the size of my trailer and that it was an entry-level build, he agreed that WFCO that I had decided on would be okay for me. Although Randy is a busy person, I'm certain he will do his best to advise you according to your needs. If you prefer, there is an 'Ask Randy' button at the top left of the Best Converter website you can click on so that you can email him.

What I did was calculate what I was going to use initially and how many electrical lines I felt that would require and then padded it by adding at least one additional DC and one additional AC circuit, so that I would be covered for possible future additions. The unit that I bought does not have a built-in volt minder but you get a $5 discount when you buy the plug-in programmable one together with your converter purchase. Its weight is nominal and its power usage is only .16 Amp (way less than 1 Amp).
