radio shack 12gauge wire for 12v?

Postby Grid Runner Adventures » Sun Mar 14, 2010 11:54 am

Hello guys. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062647

will this work for my 12v system. the most i will be using is a 150watt inverter. no microwave or things like that.

customer review says insulation melts at 176 degree's?

also how much wire is typically ran in a camper. planning on one accessory port on each side one in the front galley area. then i'll have 3 lights. fluorescent most likely, if i went led i'd need more then 3 for the interior.

6x8 camper.

Anything from the battery should have 10 gage wire. All the rest can be run on 14-16 gauge. Haven't checked on the price lately but that sounds expensive. You might comparison shop at the auto stores and the big box stores.

How much depends entirely on you, your TD size and how many goodies you put in. 8)

aye i was going to run 10 gauge to the fuse block. but the wiring in the walls is what i was going to run 12 gauge for.

i get 30% off on that 4.99 at radioshack employee discount :)
just wondering if the insulation on that wire is safe for running inside my walls.

12 ga. would be OK as long as it's a short run to the inverter; they draw a bunch. The other units will work with 16 ga.
