Bought a folding solar panel

Postby nevadatear » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:37 am

Well, I decided to bite the bullet. I ordered a 25 watt folding solar panel for the TD. https://www.21st-century-goods.com/product/Sunlinq-25-Watt-Folding-Solar-Panel.html. This was the cheapest with no shipping. We use very little power when camping, and are rarely at civilized campgrounds with shore power. We have never gone below 1/2 on our battery in one weekend, even when using the DVD player, but with our first week long trip coming up, I wanted some insurance. I know it won't recharge a dead or dying battery, but a trickle charge to keep it up/top it off for our slight useage maybe all we need. Trying it out in two weeks (if it gets here in time) and I'll let you know! $> . They are still pretty pricey at $300, but I so like the idea of solar, and portable, it is worth the investment it to me.

As you indicate, a little pricey. However, I really like the folding and portability of the panels. I am a low-power user and 25W would probably keep my teardrop battery charged. Please keep us posted on how it is operating. Thanks!

Welcome to the portable PV club! I posted a review of a suitcase style panel awhile back and I've been watching the prices come down on the roll up type. Let us know how yours works as it's a lot more portable than the one I got. What charge controller did you get or does the panel come with one?

I would agree!

And here's another link in case the one you posted is missing a character in it's url...

Congrats on another step taken towards self-sufficiency!

I've had my mind's eye on a similar item that a co-worker mentioned, one that folds in half like a large, thin briefcase.

I did get a $30 controller that was available on the website.
