Just wondering what brand converter/charger people are using. This one was brought up in the past.. http://www.batterymart.com/p-battery-te ... arger.html

Maybe I should elaborate a bit.... So the plan is to use a coule 12v batteries to run the LED lighting on my tear drop and some other things such as the vent fan. That particular charger is rated for 5 amps which I think I would be hard pressed to reach. My camper also has a small window air conditioner and refridgerator for longer trips where I can plug into A/C.

As a side question: would it be better to have a couple 6v deep cycle batteries as opposed to 12v batteries for longer run times?

Personally, I would just look around and see what you get for how much. A lot use the WFCO, I was looking at the mighty mini myself, but found a nice used Elixer for about half the price.

It works great!

Yep, me too. Several of us here have used this one. I installed mine in 2006, & 12K+ miles later, no problems of any kind. Dunno if it has what they call a 'smart charger' but it keeps my battery charged when I have elect hookups, & provides 12vdc for stereo, all lighting, & 12v outlets whether using battery or 'shore' power. Has up to 5 (6?) 12vdc circuits & space for 4 115vac breakers. Wiring/hookup instructions that come with it ain't the best or clearest but it ain't that hard to do & enough here have done it that you can get pretty good help if needed  I placed mine in the galley right next to the shore power connection but you can put it nearly anywhere it'll be protected.

We have the Progressive Dynamics power center http://www.progressivedyn.com/all_in_one_pd4000.html
There is a Xantrex converter/inverter 3000 Watt but they come very dear at about $1000 dollars or more.

My converter only converts AC to DC and charges the battery. You need an inverter to convert DC to AC. Hope this helps.

I have the charger/converter that's in the first post - 12v/5A Battery Tender Plus. That's what powers my onboard lights and fan when I'm plugged in to the campground .... I have minimal 12vdc items, so the 5A from the charger is more than enough. I don't even have a battery yet, so the charger is working strictly as a converter (12vDC to 120vAC) right now.

Since I don't have a trailer battery yet, If I'm not able to plug into campground power, I just have power wires run from my tow vehicle that I use for my onboard lights and fan.

Also, If I cant plug into a campground and need AC power for a small radio or to charge my laptop, then I have a $35 400W Black & Decker Power Inverter (12vDC to 120vAC) that I just hook up directly to the tow vehicle battery and run an extension cord to wherever I need it.

That 400W inverter also has a battery drain protection circuit, so that if the battery drops below a certain point, it will kill the power.
